The Strategy forum has come a long way since I remember first posting in it.II have gone from playing .25/.50 to 5/10 full ring and 3/6 6max and often like to think I know everything about the game (which is sooooo far from the truth).But I have learned a couple things, and have noticed something about the strategy forum lately.It is so easy to cap AA preflop, and raise any flop bet with it.It is so easy to raise AQ in the CO and then three bet it when an ace flops.It is easy to "slowplay" a set of eights to get maximum value.What I am getting at is, people need to stop fumbling through their PokerTracker histories looking for how they played monster starting hands or how they played their biggest pots.What makes a great LHE player is how he plays the small and challenging pots.All the long-term winning LHE players will tell you this is true.Anyone can get value with AA.Not everyone can get value with J6 suited. Or J10 offsuit.What I reccomend is that, especially for beginners, start posting your tough or borderline pre-flop decisions.Start posting the times you hit bottom pair and it gets raised to you and you don't know how to play it.Start posting hands where you flop only backdoor draws and don't know if getting your money in is mathematically correct.Getting advice from the knowledgable players here on those sorts of hands is what makes you a better play.Good luck at the tables.

Brilliant point... I've yet to post in strategy, but read frequently - which I'll be rectifiying very shortly (when I get poker tracker / sign up for rakeback at Empire). I've noticed in my play that I seem to either win big pots with monsters, lose big pots getting sucked out on, and in between get ground down on the small hands - calling down with second pair, or folding second pair seeing it hold up etc. Definitely a huge leak in my game.As Absolute says, it's the small hands that are causing me to remain stalled at the same limits over 6 months at 1-2. I'll make a note to try and post these types of hands in the next few weeks.

right on chris. this is a problem for a lot of people, and they need to recognize how to really get max value out of the marginal situations. I know that this has been something that I have been concentrating on myself. People also need to post more hands that are blind steal/defend situations as those are much more important then raising with AK PF and betting through

Is there really that much blind stealing/defending going on in LLHE? With an average of 4-5 people seeing every flop the opportunity doesn't arise very often.Yeah there's little point in a - how do I get max value when I flopped quad aces post but I don't see too many of those. Plus as someone responded to one of these types - it doesn't happen that often so don't worry about it.Some of the more common situations that I see 4-5 times per 100 are interesting even if they're "easy" because of the subleties involved. When do we not want to slow play our set. When do we not want to raise PF with AQ - and more importantly how do you play it post flop when an A doesn't fall. There are almost no "scripts" that you can follow in poker because each situation is different based on the number and qualities of your opponents and the action before you.

Excellent point Absolute. This is a real problem of mine. In fact while the bulk of my bankroll is tied up, I've decided to drop down to micros and work extensively on playing in these situations. I don't know how profitable it will be since I'm seeing tons of flops, but I have to learn how to play these hands if I want to improve.I was getting way too tight recently. My VP$IP was around 12.
