Hey. First time posting in the tourney section. I'm playing a few decent sized tournaments just to get a feel, trying to round my game out a little. I'm the first to admit I'm not much of a tournament player, though I have a decent understanding of NL, and have had decent results so far.Here's the situation:30$ 50k guaranteed Rebuy/Add-on tournament. I'm in for 90 bucks, and have 15,000 chips. There are approximately 300 of the 750 players remaining. The blinds are 200/400 with an ante, and the average stack is between 11 and 12KI've been playing well, and am positive that I'm the best player at my table, and one of the better players in the tournament. Attribute this not to my high skill level, but to the stupefyingly low level of play around me. I've been increasing my stack through a combination of good hands, good reads, and some pretty basic chip-accumulation plays, but I've been playing pretty tight.Also, I am not very good on a big stack, so there's very little tangible advantage (outside of the extra chips) to being a huge stack.I'm in late Middle Position with AKo. UTG +2 (stack of 4,000) raises to 800. I make it 2000 to go. The button makes it 9500 straight, leaving himself with 2000. UTG + 2 drops. Action to me. POT = 13,1007,500 to me.If I call the bet, I'm committed for his extra 2K, leaving me with about 4K if I lose. Let's assume that the button is tight plus he is basically pushing almost his whole stack after a raise and a re-raise. I put him on pocket pairs of tens thru aces, AKs, AKo, AQs.Running it thru Poker Stove says that you are 43% to win, so you would need to be getting 2.3-1 on your bet.And this is a tournament, so your standards have to be stricter than a cash game as a loss here would cripple you.I fold and go on to the next hand with a still decent stack.

I agree w/gobears. AK is a great starting hand and I stress starting hand. The flop is only going to hit you about a thrid of the time. I you don't flop well all your left with is over cards. I play them for a decent raise pre-flop (4-5 x's bb) if someone comes over the top your probably well behind and need to eject.
