I thought he was on a flush draw and was looking to check-raise when it hit on the river. Was it weak to check the river?

You probably should have bet the river. If he hit his flush, he's usually betting it, rather than check/raising. If he had a stronger Ace or two pair, he would have shown more aggression sooner. He will likely call with an Ace with a weaker kicker. I think it's worth a value bet.

If you truely thought he was on a flush draw then you played it right. Checking the river is a good play because if you don't and he raises you just lost a bet you could have saved. Saved bets are worth just as much as bets won.I sort of agree with the original responce of value betting the river. But I don't know if it really holds a lot of value. he could be playing a hand like 76 or 79 or a flush draw. As for the check raise its hard to say if he was on a flush draw he could easily be going for a check-raise on the river as you were showing aggression during the hand on each street and seemed likely to continue.

I have been stuggling with this in my game. I think it is a leak in my game because when this situation happens to me I have been doing the exact same thing. The questions that I try and ask myself is "What do I gain by betting in these situations?" Typically my answer is nothing. The only hands that are folding are hands that I have beat (so I don't really gain anything with the bet) and hands that hit there 10 or flush are raising. So I check not giving them the opportunity to CR.I sometimes think this is a weak play and I am losing bets to someone who thinks there middle pair or A rag is a winner.

I think you have to bet it here. Especially at .50/1 where he is probably calling you down with A3o. They do like to chase lots of flushes, but just as often they're calling down with much less.

I think he has a worse ace here enough to bet.Let's review the math. If you bet and he calls with his weak ace, you gain one bet relative to checking. If you be and he check/raises you lose two bets relative to checking (unless you fold to his c/r which I don't recommend). So you should bet if he has the flush less than 1/3rd of the time.Against an unknown player I bet.If I had seen the BB c/r flushes on the river a few times (which is a common play in LLHE), I might check.

Ok another question on this topic. Same situation but the postion is reverse and you are first to act.Do you:Check CallCheck FoldBet fold to a raiseBet Call if raised.I tend to think that aggrsseion is good here, but I guess these type of boards slow me down to much. I tend to check call here which I think is bad but have been having a hard time convincing myself otherwise.

i think you should bet this and call a raise.(if you're out of position:)i hate bet/folding against all but the most passive of players.if you're unsure of how to handle a raise, check/call. you might lose a value bet, but without a read, that's better than losing a whole pot.aseem

what's raising that river that we can beatbtw, OP, I like the check behind, if you are gonna fold to a CR then IMO it would be a thin value bet
