i quit. and you should too.

Recommended Posts

I will quit answering questions in strategy, except for those pertaining to simple odds or how to read the winning hand in Omaha.I invite the other FCPer’s without a clue to do the same.We have too many posters giving bad advice. No one more so than me.It’s embarrassing.I used to give advice, humbly, now I actually think I know the better play.Do you see how often I suck off my own hands! Should I be advising: No.Many of you reading this should do the same.To the extent that I contributed to bad poker players giving advice, I apologize. There should be a quiz to take before one can give advice. One who loses 25BB in 15 hands at sshe on Party, automatically must re-take.( ok maybe we understand super-short term cold streaks and bad beats, but one should be investigated for suspension)Honestly.I quit.I will continue to post hands and solicit advice.Once my post flop skills improve immensely, I may consider trying to contribute on the other end as well. This is narcissistic, for certain. But continuing to advise is even more so.thanks to all those who really know what they are talking about, allowing others to express themselves. But, please, will some of you others out there, join me and quit giving bad advice.ps. back to finishing sshe..another pre-requiste to advising on playing sshe, I’d suggest.

I think it is good to give advice to players. If someone doesn't agree with another person they can tell them and give their advice. You don't have to agree with what people tell you, but if you understand why people make these moves it will help you become a better player. It's like reading poker books, although you may not agree with what the author says it is important to pick up as much information as possible about the game.

There's plenty of value in seeing someone post an imperfect response. When you see someone post something that's not quite dead on to your thoughts, it does one of three things. 1-It makes you flame the poster like no other, though this is more restricted to General.2-It makes you argue with the poster and tell them why they are wrong.3-It makes you rethink your strategy and make you think you might be wrong. 2 and 3 are good. Lots of the calls in hand posts are close calls, and the mathematical solution isn't the end of it, nor is there necessarily only one possible math interpretation. I dunno, I like reading the hand posts where people have wildly differing opinions, one of whom has to be wrong. (hand yesterday between Akishore and guy with smiling sun avatar for example.)If you are really inconfident about your own advice, put a disclaimer at the beginning. But seriously man, it helps to talk about all the possible plays in poker and the reasons for making them. And if you are just posting hand ad nauseum without any regard, people will stop responding anyway. My two cents-Matt

I just started Harrington on Hold 'em, which is amazing. And the one thing that I think is so great about his book is that he categorically goes through all of the wrong moves you can make, and what the effect of that wrong move would be. Soooo, without those crappy responses...we may not see just how bad a certain move is.

We don't come here for advice, we are here for discussion. Really there are no experts here. Do you really expect Daniel or Doyle come to the strategy forum to give you advice? :club: We came here to discuss why this hand could be played better, why it should be raised, folded,... we listen to different opinions, even though not the best, but by communicating with and considering the others' thoughts and options, it really helps those who try to improve their games, including me. Of course you need to filter out what's the best for you.

Actuary:How many times lately have you seen Chris, Smash, KDawg and Aseem with differing views on how to play a hand. I think that alone confirms that very solid players can view a situation completely differently, and there's nothing wrong with that.As the others have said already, it's more about the discussion than having one expert answer. Heck, even Smash is wrong sometimes... *Putting on flame retardant suit*

I'm glad you all agree with me. :-) See, my advice sux..even when it comes to not giving it.For me, I need a break from giving.I take back the suggestion that others who don't know the basics should also quit. Everyone has a choice.Disagreement among those that know the basics/theory often comes down to subtleties, experience at various limits, etc...for me...I just don't no better.DXE: yes this should be in Strategy. We know bad players give advice in general, and that's fine. But if you come here..you should have a clue.If not, the advice should be tempered with some disclaimer.sorry...I'm feeling the blues...this will likely be regretted soon.

You didn't understand Pot Odds 2 years ago, and today you are palying 10/20 ?I have hope.Honestly, that is refreshing.Boy, you got good fast.( I assume you at least handily beat the other limits, if not 10/20, yet )seriously, I feel better.

When I post in the strategy section, I'm not posting just to try and help the OP. I'm posting the way I would play the hand in order to see if other people think I'm wrong and right. And if I'm wrong, hopefully someone will point out why and I can understand the game better. I'm not saying I agree with everything people say, but it always nice to see another point of view. Some responses can be a little rude, but you have to get past that. And try not to defend a point to the death out of pure pride.

You didn't understand pot odds? The first time I read Theory of Poker...I got it....are you young or something and started playing recently? As for Doyle and Daniel giving advice....They don't know crap either.....the game of NL Holdem in tournament form is evolving....the cash game side is getting weirder by the minute....Keep adapting and keep learning...Howard Lederer to this day says that he learns new things everytime he plays....

I agree totally with The Professor. Nobody can lay claim to knowing everything there is about any given topic, and with the ever-evolving beast that is poker:much to learn there is 8) (that was my latest yoda impression).
