Playing in a weekly tournament...60 players. Its very early in the tournament, 5th hand. Blinds are 100-200. average is about 6,000 in chips... player in position is chip leader....doubled up 2nd hand, and although he ends up taking my chips, is not a good player. I have pocket 10's under the gun...i make it 600 to go....middle position reraises to 1,200. one caller in late position. I call. Flop comes rags...52 8 rainbow. I check. Middle position staires at the flop for 15-20 seconds and then checks. Position player bets a 1,000 to go. At this point, my attention was on the middle position player, and I know that he missed with A,k (is what I put him on, but it turned out to be A,Q) So I check raised to 3,000. Middle position folds.Turn comes Q. I push the rest of my chips in. He calls and show's pocket K's. If he pushes in before the flop, I'm not even in the hand...My attention was so focused on the player that had reraised me before the flop, that I didn't give the button a second thought. I was confident that middle position had missed, but with the reraise before the flop, I was giving him credit for a high pair. When he checked, well that confirmed that he had missed. So I check raised to make sure that he wouldn't stay in to catch his A. If I come out with a bet on the flop, the button would probably have raised me, and I would have but him on 2ugly pair or a set...I think I could have gotten away from it.
I'm sick of hearing, "BUT THEY WERE SUITED!!" "If it wasn't for luck, I would win every hand."

I think your push on the turn is pretty weak. You're not really looking to play an underpair against two possible callers here are you?

This is just an awful play. I don't get it. Frankly, I'm folding once I see it re-raised by a factor of 2, and then CALLED? (You've got to think like the guy at the end who calls it. He's seen one guy bump it to 3X the BB. Then a guy bumps to 6X the BB... ok this guy NEEDS a DOMINATING hand to even think of calling. Either KK or AA, I don't even know if he's gonna call AK here. Honestly, once it comes back to me and it's 600 more to call pre-flop, I'm throwing it away. Not to mention the fact that your bet of 3X the BB in early position is probably not the wisest thing to do. But it's OK, this isn't where you went wrong, you went wrong by calling the additional 600 pre-flop. It's obvious you were beat unless this tournament consists of drunken monkeys or a guy named WRTO.PS: Just kidding WRTO. 8)

Thats the thing....the button was a drunken monkey. This guys usually doen't make it pass the first round. If he has a chance of catching anything he's staying....serious....i've watched him on more than one occassion make some stupid calls. The middle position is an alright player, and i wanted to see a flop....When the flop came, I knew he didn't have it. I didn't mention it, but i was the first one in the previous hand, and I had raised the same amount, no callers.Your right though....I should have put him on Q's or better when he called the reraise....even though HE'S AN IDIOT. It would have been humiliating, but I could have gotten away from it on the flop. Thanks for your help....Jason
