Ok, I have 2000 FPP'S on stars and decided to enter the 10pm tournies this week to gain entrance to the big one on Sunday since I'm finally getting a Sunday off. I'm at work now so I can't post the hand history but I don't think it matters.There were a couple hundred entrants and after a few hours I was hovering near the chip lead with 2 others and was currently in 3rd with 23k in chips, leader was at my table and had 25k. Stars always tries to move the highest chip leaders to the same table and he had been 2 spots before me for about 50 hands. He was also being LAG trying to knock the small stacks out calling with decent but not great hands, like KJo and such, then after 2 people limped he pushed his whole stack and I was the BB with AKd. Now I was thinking that I pretty much could sit out and make the final 9, but my read was he didn't have AA,KK or he would have just raised, pushing all in reeked of not wanting a call, so I called him and he had JJ which held up and I was ready to slit my wrist, lol.Do you call in this position or just lay it down? It's such a Heaven or Hell or limbo type of thing. I can't seem to shake it this morning wondering if I should have layed it down?

No reason to risk it on a coinflip with the chip leader imo you could have waited for a better spot, esp against someone playing marginal hands.

I know, I knowNormally I would pick on the smaller stacks and avoid the chip leader. I thought if I hit I would definately be in the money and could basically sit out. It was just so hard at that point staring at AK sooted! You know it was sooted!! lol I need to shake it off, thanks for replying..

I understand your point, you have AK and a chance to double up, but this guy is not going to put all his chips in with anything that you are beating here.

It was preflop and like I said he was pushing with junk, once a J4o. I realized he probably had a pair, I was thinking 9's or T's so I wasn't far off, the all in push just reeked of NOT wanting a call. I figure it was a coin flip which I DIDN'T want to do but my finger just could not be stopped. I'd be bragging this morning on my victory if an A or K comes but instead I'm just another friggin loser!! AARRRHGHGH

that is a tough spot for sure. Personally I would have called because you would be in a dominating position if you hit. Bad luck

Based on that, you have to lay it down; you're trying to win a seat in the Sunday tourney - not take 1st place. Sounds like you've got it by just folding the rest of the way.

I was just in a FT WSOP Bracelet Race last night, 106 players down to 16. I just moved from 11th to 4th. Very next hand I raise UTG+1 with AKo, called from MP3, SB goes all in. I have them both covered by about 2200. My first instinct was to just let it go since I've still got the MP behind me. But then I decided to push and hope to take it heads up. No such luck, MP3 had KK and took it down, SB had AQ. Go with your gut, it's a good berometer. I ended in 9th, out of everything.

I know it's cliche (and perhaps too simplistic), but AK is more of a raising hand than a calling hand.

Agreed. If you were up against a smaller stack this would be an easy call, but against the only person that could knock you out of the touney you need to make this laydown. Even if you were to hit one of your cards I still don't like a call here.

Funny but I posted this this morning and DN gets knocked out when someone called his allin JJ with AK and beat him. I jinxed him.
