good/bad etiquette or good/bad strategy

Recommended Posts

In the middle of a NL live tourney, you're at the river against a weak player who has previously mis-called his cards (had a full house but only thought he had 3 of a kind). This is the kind of player who pretty much can only figure out he has a pair or 3 of a kind. He has no business playing but is. Occasionally, he has the ability to realize he has a flush or straight and you put him on a flush this hand however there is a pair on board which opens the door to a full house or 4 of a kind. A good size pot developed. On the river, you have a straight. There is a flush possibility (which you think the weak player has and realizes) and the river paired the board. You think the river made his flush but it also paired the board which you don't think he realizes. Is it good/bad etiquette or good/bad strategy to mention ..."you realize that there is a Full House or 4-of a kind potential out there, don't you?" (said quite cynically) before you make a big raise that you don't want called? You expect him to get scared and fold once he knows he can be beat. All opinions welcome. Thanks,IIChron

If someone ever said something so condescending to me I'd raise immediately, thinking the speaker is really weak. You'd have better luck saying that when you actually do have the boat, I think.

I tried this once. After I told the fish that the board paired and there was a possibility that I had a full house, he open/farrelled in glee.
you're missing the part where he didn't have a flush.won't work.bad players are too stubborn with hands, especially hands as good as flushes.aseem

It did work and the weak player folded. Obviously it's not a tactic to use regularly either. Don't think I was implying it was. Actually, after seeing the replies, I might use the tactic against strong players so they bet into me when I have the boat. Thanks,
