Let's keep the mensa type questions off the forum. While I appreciate the challenging questions even if I may or may not know the answers, I am over here laughing my butt off because one of the people in the thread SEEMED to have trouble keeping track of the right answer(s). Then to watch half of the people answer the questions only to do so with misspelled words in their post.I mean cmon people, let me help you Geniuses in training. Learn the EASY stuff first then tackle the MENSA handbook later. Most of you should stick to poker, after all Numbers & Letters in sentences seem to give most of you trouble. Put correctly spelled words on flash cards & hold them in your hand like in poker & maybe you'll feel better.Yes I know,,,,some of you will say "Well the grammar police are out" among other things that allow you to pretend that being stupid is ok on the internet. But when you bring intelligence related things here to the forum, get it right the first time, spell it REASONABLY well & you should be free of the grammar police.

I would suggest that you master the language yourself before mocking how others use it. I can find at least five grammatical errors in your post (and that's only on my first read). If there's an easier way to look like an asshole on a forum, I don't know that I've seen it. Congratulations.

There was a post by a school teacher who treid to defend the public school system after DN bashed it, and she made a couple of obvious grammar errors if I recall. This is basically the only type of post that needs good grammar though. Complaining about misspelling is absurd of course since typing skills is hardly a prerequisite for making a post in a fast moving forum or in live online discussion.OP,There is more to grammar than spelling, not that I am anywhere close to perfect gramatically myself either. Nevertheless, people who live in grass houses should not get stoned, or something like that.*Then* is not a good way to start a sentence.*cmon* is properly c'mon.*&* rarely belongs in a sentence. Using numbers or symbols to replace words (e.g. *2* instead of two, *&* instead of and) is bad grammar.*,,,,,* does not work either. One comma is sufficient for places you want a comma and adding more than one is, er, "ungrammatical", not to mention superfluous. Perhaps you meant *.....*instead? In that case the rule is to use three periods in the middle of a sentence and four periods to end a sentence, or is it paragraph....*But* is not a good way to start a sentence either.

I think you mean the spelling police. If the grammar police actually existed, they would've kicked in your front door and hauled you away for the above post. You are lucky there are no laws prohibiting incorrect capitlization, incorrect punctuation, run-on sentences, and dangling modifiers. If there were, you'd be locked away for years with cellmates who would very much enjoy splitting your infinitives.

Half the fun is watching you fools get riled about my thread.Thank you.I am not requesting you all to be perfect at anything. However, I'm not on poker forum offering up questions and/or puzzles meant for people of above average intelligence, then getting confused about the right answer & using words in my threads that flat out do not make sense.I could spend time pointing out people & their mistakes one at a time & be as lame as those of you that spent this much time picking my thread apart assuming I was expecting or proclaiming perfection. Thank you all for making this well worth my effort!

"Criticism is necessary and useful; it is often indispensable; but it can never take the place of action, or be even a poor substitute for it. The function of the mere critic is of very subordinate usefulness. It is the doer of deeds who actually counts in the battle for life, and not the man who looks on and says how the fight ought to be fought, without himself sharing the stress and the danger." -Theodore Roosevelt

Actually Mr. Wizard, I could flame you all day and everyday if I so chose, however, your genius post is in itself a flame of your intellect. If you want a battle, then start it up son and I'll finish it.

Do you by chance remember where/when this was? I tried searching for it, unsuccessfully. I'm curious, as a public school teacher, to see what DN says the flaws are (and whether he's hit on the ones that I see).

forgive me if I'm wrong but isn't this a poker forum? Why do I feel like I'm sitting through my old english class? This is by far the biggest waste of space and time I've seen in quite awhile. Why don't you go proof read the newspaper if you're that bored and lonely.

Ya know, most of us were raised in the era of spell checks, meaning that needing to know precise spelling was a thing of the past. I find that the goal of language is to communicate ideas. If you can understand what I am saying, what my meaning is, what difference does it make how I spell something, and what grammer I use, other than your arbitrary sense of aesthetic. That being said, I am loathe to admit I agree with Iowa's Finest. I Dub thee, douche clown.
