From DN's journal. you can play him at each of the following games and get $500 for each win, or take a $2000 prize. anyone think its +EV for them to play the games?Golden Tee NBA Showtime NFL Blitz 8-Ball 9-Ball Limit Hold'em No Limit Hold'em A Game of H.O.R.S.E.in my case he'd probably be a favourite in all of the above, except of course i am by far a better No Limit Hold 'em player (SW!) so i'd take the cash.daniel

Financially it's -EV. I'd give him a run in Golden Tee, but have my clock cleaned in the others. It'd be worth it though to see if DN would take you out to a bar one night and live it up, Rocks & Rings style. :club:

Wouldn't the whole experience be one big +EV... and no -EV at all? Maybe I've lost the poit of this contest?

Well, if you weren't a fan of DN, then passing on the $2000 and going down and losing in all 8 games would be -EV.

I'd consider the $2000 for the Golden Tee and poker lessons very well spent. It's all +++++++++EV.

Good point. Assuming he doesn't kick you in the ribs and take your wallet.

I think I could beat him in a game of H.O.R.S.E. and possibly 9-Ball. 8-Ball "maybe" and then the rest he would kill me in. :club:

Are you basing this on the basketball version of H.O.R.S.E.? Because I assume he means the card version...

i would lose across the board, though i might be able to put up somewhat of a fight in H.O.R.S.E... at least lose with a touch of dignity. I think the fun and experience would be far greater than 2 g's. I suck at golden tee and most sports videos games. It would be an embarassment.

Yeah well... I took it as the basketball version since he talks about playing basketball a lot at Erick Lindgren's house.

Ya, you're probably right. I just thought it would be cards because I don't think he has a court. Rolled up socks into the hamper, maybe?

i think HORSE he meant in the poker sense, in other words he'd kill us all. literally. not just like in hold 'em where he'd win, but the win would be so thorough...you get the idea.p.s. how would you handicap someone average/terrible (me, per se) against DN? obviously a huge underdog, but i think its a valid question. my strategy would simply be to push all-in in almost any situation. at worst then when DN called i would be about a 83/17 underdog, and i could probably get it much closer to a 30-40% underdog. so that means my odds of winning should likely be at worst 20% or so. and i would probably only have to win one hand since i'd steal a few blinds with my ludicrous strategy.just a thought!danielp.s. my original post was not taking into account the rest of the contest, like having a fun time hanging out with DN and all the rest, to which money is obviously only a secondary (tertiary?) consideration.

Golden Tee is the only one I couldn't possibly win. I'd probably be a dog at the rest but I wouldn't go 0 for 9. My chances of winning 5 or more would be horrible.

I think it has to be +EV, since you can't lose money to Daniel if he beats you.So the expectation for a game is p*500Where p is the probability you will beat Daniel. As long as p is not zero, the match is +EV.

Ya, I just think people are referring to saying no to the 2 grand, and trying to win more in the 'gambler's olympics' if you will.So your equation is right, but you're starting at Y. Where Y = (-$2000)

I don't imagine me winning in any of the poker games or video games, but I think i could rough him up in both pool games.

i'd take the weekend in a heartbeat. i'd have to practice up on some video games--too bad tiger woods 2005 is not on the list! and i'd actually really look forward to the limit hold 'em challenge the most :club:
