When I first started playing poker, I tried to get advice from everyone that I possibly could. Actually, it was after I endured some healthy losses that I sought help from other players, lol. My problem was, I was looking for THE answer. Ironically, most people will tell you different things. To this day, answers and advice will change from player to player. One thing to take into consideration is the limit that you play. The reason that I wrote the previous article inquiring about what limits most people play on this forum, is because certain strategies work well at 2-4 that won't work at 200-400, and vice versa. I can assume that a 2-4 game is fairly loose, I know they are in California casinos. But, I really wouldn't be the right person to go to in terms of advice on that game. I still have mentors for both cash games and tournaments. They are some of the best in the world. And I watch them WIN on a regular basis. But make sure the advice you get is sound. Even so called "authorities" on poker are not in agreement. While someone might mean well, myself included. Know WHO it is that is giving you the advice. Good Luck.

Or as the title of the old book went:If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him!
When you tell me a bad beat story, I don't really listen. I nod sadly and pretend to care, but actually I'm using the time to think about more important things. That way, you feel the sympathy you're seeking, and I put my time to good use. It works for both of us. -- Mike Caro, Super System 2

Also know that what works for some, may not work for you. I admire those that play "hyper aggressive". I can't do it with any consistent success though. It feels awkward to me, and I know others are picking up on that awkwardness.

this is total hype, myth, and bullshit. for the most part steady, tight, solid play brings home the bacon.
its great PR for the games though. keeps the action going.

to be more on track i have about 2/3rds of the hands played at .50/1 plo8 on FTP in a PTO database last year. if what i see there is any indication of what goes on in other games (and I'm fairly certain it is) there are way less winners than you think and the winners and losers and probably not who you expect. just because somebody seems "respected" does not mean they are any good. if you went over to the o8 forum on 2+2 for instance there are many respected posters who are giant losers.

“We had all the momentum. We were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look west, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark, that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.” —Raoul Duke, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
