playing top pair in an unraised pot from bb

Wondering how many of you go about playing a hand such as K 2,3,4,5,6 etc from BB when a K flops or any other similar situation.I think sometimes i can make mistakes in these situations. If you just check you can let someone take a stab at the pot and possibly leaving you unsure where you are in the hand. Bet too little and someone may playback at you and what if they just call? Bet too much and you will probably only be called when you are obviously behind in the hand.

The first thing you need to always remember is that there are no absolutes in poker. The greatness of the game lies in the fact that it is very situational. With that said, your post does not have enough information. Top pair hands are very tricky with weak kickers out of the blinds. Sometimes you will bet out, sometimes you will check raise, sometimes check fold. It depends on the texture of the flop, how many players seeing the flop, what positions they are in, and the dynamics of your table.

It is a pickle. In limit, I definitely bet out the flop, and probably bet or call down to the river.In no limit, I'd think it's reasonable to assume you're ahead and you should operate under that assumption. Top pair is still a good thing, and you should bet until someone gives you a reason to slow down.

Ok, i agree that each time it will be a different situation.But it can be a very tricky situation!Lets try and think about NL cash or STT/MTT. In limit unless something comes on the board i'd just check call it every time.

yes, this is a pretty bad situation to be in. definitely not my favorite.generally, i like to checkraise here in order to thin the field if there are more than 3 players in. this has the added benefit of letting you know where you stand better than a leading bet would, i think. of course, if someone calls your raise, you're pretty much in the same boat from there on in, but at least you're (usually) heads up and have greatly increased your chances of winning the pot, and the odds are often there to call down from then on in even if you are behind, provided there are enough high cards on the board to help out your lack of a kicker.but yeah, i don't do this ALL the time. with a smaller field of 2-3 players, i will usually lead, since the AJ or so that didn't hit won't be so inclined to chase with a smaller pot.in NL, this is even trickier, i think. i'd probably lead with a 2/3 pot bet or so, and that will probably induce a raise by a K that has you beat. any flat calls of that kind of bet and you're probably in the lead unless you're against a passive player.

TJ has it right on - bet it out until you are convince you are beat. Way more times than not you will find that, at the time at least, you have the best hand.Dev

prob why i don't play limit, ever.just seemed the least 'troublesome' way forward.
