A few times lately I've been new to a table or played against a new arrival and have had to make tough decisions ( well tough for me ).Playing Party $25 Max buy in nlhe bb=$0.259 handed5th hand you've seen.Hero ($24.50)Hero dealt (K, K)Hero is BBUTG Raises to $16 Folds to SBSB callsHero Raises to $4UTG Moves All In (putting Hero All In)SB foldsHero ?Only significant read: Current UTG player just won his last hand slow playing 22 when his set flopped and full house came on turn, beating 3K's for about $22 pot. Please crtitique the raise to $4 and suggest what Hero should do now. And with what holdings would you (not call / call) the all in...Q's and better..only Ace's..etc.

The reraise is fine with me.I call in a nanosecond. I call this situation with AA, KK, and possibly QQ and AKs (would like a bit of a read for these two hand).

With aces or kings, I'm always going to play. Easy call.Reraise is ok too with K's.I'm out of position, so I don't reraise with Q's or AK if those were my hands since UTG is showing strength and with no read.

board comes 55QA (oh crap!) Kit reveals his AQ. So I was way ahead pf and won it on the river. If he knew me, he would never assume that AQ was good against my $3 r/r, as I rarely, if ever, bluff pf or play that loose. In response to DKE..I see the point of pushing, for on another day I was pushed off of A's after the flop when he called (after limping) my r/r from $2 to $5 pre-flop and then moved in for $20 after I sheepishly bet $5 on flop of 5,7,Q. I'm timid and folded suspecting a set. He played few hands and I convinced myself it was a good laydown; however, it could have just as well been a smart play on his part smelling my wimpishness. Earlier yesterday, I had AK and raised three limpers to $1.2 from MP, we ended up with 5 and the a blind bumped it to $1.9, and all called. ($9.50 in pot)Flop comes AQ62 checks to meI bet $7Next guy raises to $15 (all in)Others foldI have $26 left and callHe has AQ and wins.I actually typed: "I'm likely beat" ...is that fishy or what!So should I have re-r/r'd the r/r to $1.90 and taken it down there, or was I fine until calling the $15 with AQ on board...Thanks, it is these questions concerning "When is my hand likely ahead" that I struggle with in my new hobby..

Why didn't you push that flop????

Seriously, his call of my pre-flop r/r to $5 after he just limped got my attention. So I bet small to say "Hey still interested" and then I get my answer. Stupid wimpy bet considering the odds of hitting the set is less than %15, and two pair was highly unlikely I'd say. No excuse now as I think about it.It's like he thought "Eh, I got AJ, but I can get this pot on the flop, watch me..he'll slow down when I call his pre-flop r/r"I have no idea what he had, except later I saw him play very few hands and be aggressive with solid holdings.Obvioulsy, I've got to be willing to risk losing to flopped sets to ever really be a decent player and not always think my opponent hit.thanks for all the feed back.

If that is not an almost ideal situation for your kings, then I don't know what you are looking for. Sure, you may be up against aces, and may even be ahead and get sucked out on, but that's poker. Just ask TJ Cloutier
