That is fine but imo he is held accountable for his actions. Sad that it is in his awful world and to have a dad like that

The money he was awarded is about holding the Canadian government accountable for their actions (or lack of).

It would be pretty extreme for a 15-year old to be tried as an adult. Even more extraordinarily so if it could be shown that his parents encouraged the behaviour.

I think that's all missing the point though. He wasn't tried. How long was he held in a facility known for torture and war crimes without even a trial, or charges, or even a presentation of evidence? He was a Canadian citizen and he was denied the most basic rights being a Canadian is supposed to include.

Even if we ignore his age, unless you believe that Canada has been at war for the past 15 years AND there was reason to believe Khadr held useful intelligence, there's no legal basis for holding him in a foreign prison for that long without charges.
Long signatures are really annoying.

Yes lack of it, I understand. War crimes are brutal. History shows it.

I knew he had a winning case and that is why the lawyer housed him since he knew the windfall at the end of the rainbow.

IMO, was it the right call. Yes under Canadian law it was, but I personally can't stomach it.

To be clear, even for someone like myself in the minority position of strongly agreeing with the decision, I think it is very reasonable for people to feel nauseated by it. I actually applaud people like Wayne (and probably others) who are able to look past the ugly headlines to consider the merits - I'd certainly be hard-pressed to do the same if the situation was reversed.
Long signatures are really annoying.

https://en.wikipedia...wiki/Omar_Khadr

In October 2010, Khadr pleaded guilty to "murder in violation of the laws of war" and four other charges at a hearing before a United States military commission.[3][4][5][6][7] The charges were created under the Military Commission Act of 2006 and considered by the US to be war crimes, although they are not recognized as war crimes under international law, and the act was not in place at the time that the alleged offenses were committed.[

And iirc he was the only one charged under the act. Also given that he was 15 at the time this really stinks -- and the fact they tortured him. Ya..

We seem to be digging a deeper and deeper hole of radicalization -- stuff like this doesn't help. Two wrongs don't make a right, etc, etc.

Plus he only confessed after like two years of torture and there's no evidence that he actually did it

It's "funny" sifting through this thread and seeing how many of us called this Presidency almost perfectly. I've been greatly annoyed almost every day for the past 207 days but today was disgusting. It's taking all my will power not to tell my few Trump supporter friends to eff off. Luckily for them they've been abnormally quiet the last 60 days or so.

What a mess...

I understand how she feels, but it still feels like a two wrongs sort of thing to me.

Freedom of speech is under attack and people don't even realize it.

I don't understand why some people hate others just because of the colour of their skin, but I fully support their right to voice it in a non-violent manner.

Actually, looking at that picture above again I see one person protesting peacefully and another person invading someone's personal space while gesturing aggressively.

Yeah one single picture of two people tells the whole story that racists are peaceful and angry girls are violent? Give me break. :massive eyeroll:

Don't see many people on the opposite side of the Nazis protesting in full military gear with assault rifles. So yeah. Middle fingers are the issue. Ffs.

I don't consider carrying a confederate flag around in public "protesting peacefully". He is specifically attempting to provoke under the guise of peaceful protest.
