Caro on tournaments.

Recommended Posts

Man Smash you are the king of post padding :)No I haven't read the article, but it would be interesting to check out. Maybe I'll go grab a copy as I don't have a subscription to Poker Player [not enough time to read it] I love some of his articles, but sometimes they seem out of touch. Granted he's usually spot on when he writes them though.

"That guy" is very intelligent.Sure he is.Creepy though.HAve you ever seen him speak in person? He'd look right at home on the Strip with a sign saying "Repent now the end times have come!!"There's a reason they call him "Crazy Mike"

I wish he would prove his "mad genius" by winning a major tournament sometime this century. Then maybe I might buy one of his gazillion books and videos.
Do you read Sklansky? How many tournaments has he won? It's dumb to rate a poker player by how many tournaments he has won. I think the article he is talking about is the one where "crazy mike" sais the odds of winning a big tournament are slim to none. A good player should win one BIG tournament once in 1000 years. Why play in tournaments if you can make more in a cash game?Personally, you should read everything this guy writes. He's utterly brilliant.

I suppose then that Daniel Negreanu is just fantastically lucky for winning so many tournaments?
I said BIG tournaments...Tournament poker is alot about luck. There are so many competitors that you can't win just because you're better. Not to mention, when your broke you're done. Daniel is a good cash game player as well. Not to be rude, but you're not thinking straight. How many players can you count that have won numerous BIG tournaments. Doyle Brunson, Johnny chan, and Phil Hellmuth. They got lucky to win more than one big one. Don't get me wrong, they're good players, but everyone gets lucky. Even the greats.

He has at least 3 WSOP bracelets that I know of. A lot of people respect Mike Caro, and he has a ton of experience talking about strategy and consulting with casinos and tournament directors and poker room mgrs, etc... But at the end of the day, given the choice, I'd rather learn from someone who's done it than someone who's just written and lectured on it.

Of course, no one can expect to win every tourney they enter. But I think it's entirely reasonable to expect someone who prostelitizes about being a poker genius to have won at least a few, or even one! Mike Caro simply doesnt have the track record of success that other pros have, and therefore he's either not playing or is not winning. And in both cases, you have to wonder why...

NOHe doesn't play in tournaments because, statistaclly, there is more money in cash games. Read what he has to say, then decide if he is good or bad. Don't measure by tournaments. That's just mainstreem bull shit. People think players are good because they are on TV. wrong.

Mike truly is a genius. The problem is that he out-thinks himself at the table. But, 99% of what he writes is right-on target though.

He does not play in the large tournaments... He said he would never play in the 10K buy-in.. stating a mathmatical formula that showed that the odds of a pro winning on any given year are like... 1/100 or 1/1000, something like that, and that its negative EV for him to play... I think its just Caro being Caro :D

I suppose then that Daniel Negreanu is just fantastically lucky for winning so many tournaments?Um, yeah. I imagine he'd tell you the same thing. You have to be a great player AND lucky to win a bunch of a tournaments. Particularly in a short period of time.

Those that can't do... teach.
That's completely false.Ever read super system? Sklansky teaches...and is very capable of "doing".It makes me sick that some of you think that if a person doesnt win tournaments, he's no good. It blows my mind.Wait, let's switch it around, for logic sake. Those that do not win tournaments are not good.So those that win tournaments are good.Greg raymor is better than Mike Caro? Or is Greg raymor one of the best?Chris Moneymaker is better than Mike Caro? The answer, if you're actually wondering, is no.
