A friend sends a mass email out, its about the Super Bowl, before the game. It shows the following.

Caption: The difference between Baltimore and San Francisco fans:

Picture on left: Hot chick in a Baltimore Ravens jersey, flashing her tits

Picture on right: Two guys kissing in SF jerseys

Offensive, or just humour, good/bad? One of my pools is having quite the argument about it, and I'm curious to hear what you guys think as sports fans.

I think it's funny, but I'm a big fan of non-PC humor. Political correctness will be the death of our society.

I'm gonna say Offensive, not funny, but probably no malicious intent.. but I guess it depends on how many/who the e-mail is getting sent to.

Hey Adam,

I was just thinking, not 30 seconds ago "Where's Adam?". I actually checked your profile to see when the last time you posted was.

I think it's funny. If the city was say Dallas would they get offended?

Just curious, what does this mean? I always hear people use those words, and I always wonder what that means....PC is going to make us all what? Less humourous? Too serious? Not arguing, just asking.

"All it takes it tits...." LMAO.

I think trying to be too PC is a useless exercise, personally. No matter what you do or how careful you try to be, people are still going to get offended because at the end of the day, some people just really like to get butthurt about issues (see what I did there?) Trying too hard not to offend anyone will inevitably end up in you having nothing at all to say, and shutting down personal opinion, conversation and healthy argument isn't good for anyone or anything.

It was sent to pretty much everyone on his email list I think, not just like the 10 of us in the pool.
Although, the only people I know offended were in my pool, only cause I didnt hear from anyone else.

good answer.

I find myself more and more conflicted about "PC" as I age. When I was younger, I wasnt as easily offended, but now it seems I see how so many things out there that we joke about can be painful to others, and I just dont see the need. In fact, I see a great need for a lot of people to consider how their actions and words they use hurt others. I may be too touchy, but thats what I have become in all honesty.
That said, I have laughed at so much offensive humour in my life, and probably will again, that I find it hard to be too judgemental about others.

I thought the email was childish and stupid. Not even because of what you guys call "PC", but I just didnt think it was funny and I trashed it. Later I find out a friend was really offended, and as I looked at it again, I could totally understand. I realized my first pass was just "eh, the guy sending it is childish+stupid, big deal". My second pass was "why should I not tell this guy its offensive, and to grow up". I still didnt, cause I didnt want the hassle, but it was interesting to me how so many people I know saw this simple stupid thing so differently.

I dont know.
For me, ya, I think it would still be offensive, but I guess I see what your saying. If there is such a thing, my degree of offended gets smaller somehow once its no longer SF.

It's def not funny and possibly offensive to certain people. I'm only offended by its idiocy.

I think a major difference is that you're a parent and I'm not. You're forced into the position of considering how something heard or read or seen would be interpreted by a kid, whereas I really only have myself to worry about. That will certainly turn up your PC radar considerably and I don't have that base of reference.

It's not that I think people should feel free to say whatever, whenever to whomever without any fear of being inappropriate, because I don't. At the same time, I do think we live in a world that is FAR too overly sensitive (sometimes militantly sensitive) for it's own good and it's getting more so all the time. I think there's a healthy argument to be made for just saying to yourself "oh, what an idiot" and moving on with one's day rather than feeling a burning need to form an advocacy group and rally support to deal with the situation.

I pretty much agree with Arp.

I laugh at really inappropriate stuff all the time. I don't know if that's "right", but it is what it is. However, I think if you are sending out a mass e-mail, you have to be way way more careful about the content. I doubt he intended to insult/offend anyone, but it's careless to put it out there and attach your name to it.

I do agree with you here, but then again I find mass emails to be pretty senseless on their merit and thus I don't send them.

I didn't think mass emails were still around. Now it's all about the Facebook share.

I don't get jokes on email nearly as much as I use to.

This is where I usually just raise a drink, and just say cheers.
Well said by all 3 of you and I like that they all clearly reflect my views.
