Balloon guy 158
Starting this last week with the 2 hour premier. Thought it was overall a good tv show that could become good except for two things that bugged me. 1. The mayor had to be some doughy blond chick. Why is there this requirement for TV land to try to force a 'strong women' lead on us every time? I mean she is supposed to be the leader of 5 alien races, one of which ( the whiteys ) who keep women in the muslim role of subservient. 2. The new hero's 'daughter' is a story that needs more fleshing out, but her 'my race is always kind of pissed off' attitude is going to get old really quick. In the second episode the 'daughter' made me want to scream when she started acting morally indignant on the whitey guy's who volunteered himself for torture. Why is her cultural pissed off act okay, but another alien's culture has to be stopped? Then the worst line in the entire history of TV was when the sheriff and the miner were in the underground city talking about their pre-invasion lives, and the miner says: "I wanted to be a photographer" And the sheriff asks: "Why didn't you keep up with your hobby?" I don't know, maybe because being thrown into a post apocalyptic world struggling to survive while being attacked and scavenging for basic needs might have prevented a person from capturing the dew on a blade of grass during a summer morning. I'm sure the chemicals to develop film survived in mass quantities. Hopefully the writers can figure a way to get past these obvious failures in writing, and explore character development while keeping explosions and weapons going strong. Otherwise this show will last a season on its merit, and another season on SyFy's unwillingness to accept that they bankrolled a poorly written show.
hank213 1,824
and the angel did break open the seventh seal and it said: the balloon shall put forth his words unto the wind and hank shall too agree. what could be an interesting premise is being ruined by lazy/hokey/cliched writing. i haven't seen the 2nd ep yet but was discomforted when the savior in the woods was an old grizzled lawman. knew instantly he wasn't going to survive the episode and the han solo character ripoff (I mean he even owes an apparently sizable debt to a nefarious character of some sort!) was going to fill his shoes. my *groan* hit it's peak when the whoremadame bartender was revealed to be the mayor's sister. how many cliches are they going to stuff into this thing?
