AmScray 354
... since this forum has no posts anymore... So I was googling old, childhood friends. Came across one who was a good buddy as a little-little kid, we grew up on the same block.Turns out he put himself into a very shitty situation, got shot up by the cops pretty bad then sentenced to time (years). It is what it is.I know what its like to feel totally cast out from the world, there's a huge part of me that wants to reach out to him, throw a few bucks in his canteen account, say "keep your head up" but I haven't spoken to the guy since we were little kids. Would it be weird?
GWCGWC 83
Googling old friends who were early childhood friends IS WEIRD. Having any consideration of how you will be perceived by a really old childhood buddy IS WEIRD based on how I perceive the persona you've projected on this board. Weird means odd, right? This sounds like a nice thing to do for someone. Couldn't hurt, right?I'm assuming throwing a few bucks in his canteen means you'll max it out for one week? Isn't being able to get some ramen, sugar and instant coffee kind of a big deal? All I have are questions.
ShakeZuma 586
I would think it would be weird if you just randomly looked him up and called him, but given his situation, I'd say writing a letter and saying just what you said, he'd probably really appreciate it.
hblask 1
I'm not sure it's weird... how much do you know about how he got to his situation? Is he someone who has chance after chance and keeps blowing it? Or is he someone who made a mistake and paid far more than he deserved?
Pot Odds RAC 23
I think that empathy is a strange thing. Our minds so badly want to be able to see and explain patterns. You see this guy with a similar background who ****ed up and because of your past, you see the pattern that you want to see. We can act all day as if we can objectively evaluate facts to reach conclusions when objectivity is an illusion. **** Ayn Rand.Cognitive dissonance ftw.
