You should see our debt to Gyro sandwich ratio. It's much higher than Greece's!

Per Capita Debt is more 'shocking' since John Q Public doesn't understand how economically irrelevant he really is. This has always been a 1% country.

Is the point of this graph to prove that the more per capita debt a country has, the more desirable it is to live there?

the point of this graph is to be able to write an article claiming we're in worse shape than greece. for clicks.

It doesn't matter why someone votes against President Obama, just that he votes against him.

It's an interesting question which is more relevant -- the amount each person owes or the percentage of the economy that we are in debt. For countries with relatively the same standard of living it shouldn't matter, but as for 'ability to pay it back', percentage of GDP probably is more meaningful. The per capita debt is probably more relevant to individual decision makers.

it's not apples to apples even when we're talking debt:GDP. their danger zone is at a much lower threshold than ours. greece doesn't enjoy the advantages that come with being the world's reserve currency. etc.

Your lips to God's ears. It would be pretty fun around here is President Obama received only about 2 million votes total

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America 's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America 's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that, "the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better."
~ Senator Barack H. Obama

Yes, I would think that would be a pretty interesting result.
