Quote

The politicians were happy to take a snap of off Romney’s credibility. Prime Minister David Cameron took a few well aimed shots at a person he would subsequently meet. “We are holding an Olympic Games in one of the busiest, most active, bustling cities anywhere in the world. Of course, it’s easier if you hold an Olympic games in the middle of nowhere.” Another official fired a salvo into the mix, assessing Romney’s character as being “apparently devoid of charm, warmth, humour and sincerity.”Boris Johnson, the brimming, colourful Mayor of London, happily weighed in as well with a certain Obama-styled echo before 60,000 gathered in Hyde Park. “There’s a guy called Mitt Romney who wants to know if we are ready. Are we ready? Yes we are!” No one will remember Romney in London – even if things go pear shaped.

Blaming the big bad Liberal Media for the bad press that Romney got on his International trip is laughable.

The Coming Democratic Attack Barrageby David Frum Aug 11, 2012 9:40 AM EDT Posted Image The likely script of the next attack ad. A woman in her later 40s, looking worried at a kitchen table. She's probably vaguely Latino; the photos on her refrigerator (kids, no dad) suggest a single mom.A woman's voice over. "You've worked hard all your life. You've paid Medicare taxes for almost 30 years. But under the Republican plan, Medicare won't be there for you. Instead of Medicare as it exists now, under the Republican plan you'll get a voucher that will pay as little as half your Medicare costs when you turn 65—and as little as a quarter in your 80s. And all so that millionaires and billionaires can have a huge tax cut."That ad will draw blood and will—as Henry Kissinger used to say—have the additional merit of being true.

If Mitt Romney was actively trying to fire up the Democrat base, he picked the right guy.I thought Rubio was a shoo-in.

I agree about Rubio, but your implication about the Ryan pick is wrong. Romeny doesn't need to be worried about the Democrats. He had to fire up the Republicans, and the only pick better than Ryan would have been Scott Walker. It's a great pick by Romney.

I agree in that it fires up both bases. It's not a safe pick that's for sure. I think it's a good pick. Rubio would have been a great pick. It's much better than picking Pawlenty or Portman that's for sure.

Picking Pawlenty would have been disastrous for Romney. For instance: I wouldn't have voted for him if he did.

Depends which republicans you're talking about. This move will excite fringe republican-libertarians, for certain. But I think Ryan's overt praise and support of Ayn Rand and Objectivism is going to alienate a lot of people, if the Dems play it right. I mean, he can try to distance himself from it, but you have things like thishttp://www.prweb.com...rweb9457144.htm-- "I grew up reading Ayn Rand and it taught me quite a bit about who I am and what my value systems are, and what my beliefs are. It’s inspired me so much that it’s required reading in my office for all my interns and my staff."and this:https://www.youtube....player_embeddedwhere not only is he supportive of Rand, but he's talking in Objectivist Jargon. That was from 2009. I can't see how belonging to an atheist capitalist cult is going to play well with the religious right. I mean, the ones whom are actually religious. People like my mom, for example, who almost always vote republican because of stuff like abortion. She asked me what Ayn Rand/objectivism was, so I just read her some stuff out of the wiki page, and she was horrified. She has declared that there's no way she's voting for Romney. Now, Mitt/Ryan have the advantage that I don't think the average voter (like my mom) have a clear grasp of what Objectivism is, so it may not matter. But, if the Dem's are efficient in their attack ads, they could make Ryan look like a Radical. Which he is, in many ways. A very interesting pick. He might be handsome enough that his politics won't matter and women will just vote for him because he's attractive.

That stuff won't matter. By far the majority of the GOP will look favorably on this pick.

Espousing a belief in an aggressively atheist philosophy won't matter? Maybe you're right, we'll see. The Dems could craft spin it in a way to terrify old people, which will matter, I promise you.

I think this is a point that should make some people go hmmmmmMitt Romney Would Pay 0.82 Percent in Taxes Under Paul Ryan's Plan

Quote

Under Paul Ryan's plan, Mitt Romney wouldn't pay any taxes for the next ten years -- or any of the years after that. Now, do I know that that's true. Yes, I'm certain. Well, maybe not quite nothing. In 2010 -- the only year we have seen a full return from him -- Romney would have paid an effective tax rate of around 0.82 percent under the Ryan plan, rather than the 13.9 percent he actually did. How would someone with more than $21 million in taxable income pay so little? Well, the vast majority of Romney's income came from capital gains, interest, and dividends. And Ryan wants to eliminate all taxes on capital gains, interest and dividends.ARTICLE CONTINUED AT LINK ABOVE
