Reading that Alec Baldwin article, it struck me how perfect David Foster Wallace would have been for this site. I can't help but think the foot notes ( side notes? end notes?) are directly influenced by him, and in general the intellectual pop cultural and sports commentary that the site is going for would have been perfect for DFW. I can't help but think he would have been a columnist for Grantland, had he lived.
This is sad because it's so true.

I know they would never do it, but if you trade anyone, it should be wade, because he's older and his skill set overlaps with lebrons.

an Incredible story. I feel like I just read a fantastic 30-for-30 episode. Also, an incredibly fitting story to launch the new website with.http://www.grantland...paper-ever-died
My goodness. The style/editing of this article was amazing. Loved every second.

You guys know the Heat was in the bottom 1/2 of the league in payroll right? A new Hard cap is going to hurt a lot of other teams before it would hurt Miami. LA and Dallas most notably.

More likely than a hard cap I think they are going to do a bunch of smaller things that will hurt Miami's ability to get quality players.1. I think they're going to get rid of the mid-level and bi-annual exceptions for sure. 2. They're also talking about getting rid of sign and trades. The one thing that might help Miami is if there are a large number of free agent role players who are forced to take minimum contracts. Miami will be an attractive place for those players to go to and if they're better than the Juwan Howard's etc that could help The Heat.Until we know that the new CBA looks like it's going to be hard to know who the biggest winners and losers are.

bingo.but everything I see says it is extremely unlikely a new system would force Miami to trade one of the Big 3. I think the MLE is dead in the water which hurts Miami but also everyone else. It will kill the possibility of Chicago having the cash to woo a big time shooting guard for instance.going to be a looooong offseason.

I keep forgetting that Michael Schur is Ken Tremendous.Really funny read about a cricket match. On the Weirdness Scale of Referee Signals, it's halfway between "Illegal Man Downfield" in football and "Crazily Rush Forward and Hold Out Both Arms Like a Human Forklift" in Australian Rules Football. The announcer now says, in re: Tendulkar's back-to-back luck-outs: "I can't think of another moment in cricket where more people had their hearts in their mouths on consecutive balls." Which is the dirtiest non-dirty thing ever said.

This site has some terrific writing: classically styled in a pastoral, "stalk of grass in the mouth while watching the wind blow" kind of way, the words flow off the page and into your brain like a soothing ointment, rather than a glove slap to the face. Points and opinions expressed seem void of the badgering so common today in sports writing. Even if you don't agree with a point of view, the method of expression makes you think, I mean really stop and think, that the writer's view is valid and it usually is. Taking a stance, a strong opinion, an unflinching stare-down of the writer's fact vs your fiction, yet offered in such a generous way as to expand not just one's sports universe, but the meaning of one's existence.
"We had all the momentum. We were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave. So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look west, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark, that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back." —Raoul Duke, Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas

I like that you use the same old picture to express your lack of understanding of a post. It keeps things clear. Thumbs up!
