PokerStars & players donate $488,782 to Japan reliefby Brad Willis on June 6, 2011 7:57 AM When Japan shook, the world shook with it. When the ocean's waves wiped clean entire towns, the world looked on in horror. Whether Japan was next door or half a planet away, there was no denying the tragedy or the need to do something to help. PokerStars players have again answered that call. The Japanese Red Cross Society has sent a letter to PokerStars and its players for their May donation of ¥39,508,310 to the relief effort. In total, PokerStars players put up $244,391 of their own bankrolls to help. PokerStars matched that money for a total donation of $488,782.We have been provided a copy of the Red Cross Society's note and have posted it here so everyone can see their money has gone to a worthy cause. Just click on the picture below to see the full size letter. Thanks to all who donated.

Yaaaaaaaaay, poker players. It still never ceases to amaze me at the generosity of the poker community. I hope things like this are brought to the attention of law-makers as it is yet another favorable aspect of the game/community.

I don't know. I think everyone in D.C. are too busy looking at their Weiner to notice any good we might have done. But congrats to everyone who played at Stars for helping the people of Japan.
