a crazy rhetorical question

ok, i have been thinking about this sitatuion a lot. it is unrealistic but definately possible these days. First hand of the main event for the WSOP you are in the big blind. It folds around to the button who is a fat white guy with a party poker shirt on and he moves all in for 10,000 (blinds are 5-10 or 10-20). small blind folds and you look down at A :club: K :D what do you do?

Why would you call here? AK suited isn't a big favorite over any hand (about 2-1 favorite against unpaired hands that aren't sharing our cards), and is a big dog to two hands. The blind levels are small and very long at the WSOP, giving you plenty of time to gain chips by skill. Also, I think this belongs in general.

(sw)Only call if the fat white guy's shirt doesn't cover his belly and there is a food trail up the center leading to his mouth.Seriously-I don't play a lot of no limit, but I fold. It's early and you'll many more opportunites to take this fools money.

AKs is not that great of a hand preflop that is...its beat by 22 preflop...so yea fold very very fast...the blind levels are very long and the blinds are low so your chip stack is deep...let him steal the blinds for now because later he most likely will be gone anyway

Obviously you call with AA against any amount of all-ins.AK's an easy fold here.
If it was a cash game, yes, equity would demand it. But although you'd be the favorite in this situation, you'd be in the neighborhood of a high 20%-low30% favorite to win...do you want to risk your tournament on that? The chipstack may be worth it, but is it really that valuable to bust that many people, especially given how long the structure of the WSOP is?
