Villain had been playing fairly tight. At showdown he always seemed to have a premium hand although there were some hands he had folded on river. I don't think he can be as strong since he is opening from the button so I elected to call from the sb. On the flop I don't think I can lead because if he makes any sizeable raise I don't see how I can call. With the smaller flop bet and flush cards out I put him on a hand like ak aq aj or small to mid pair. The turn is where I think I should have went for the check raise. Would this have been the right play, or should I have stayed safe and checked and called?Posted ImageMoooooooooooraaawwwr.PokerStars No-Limit Hold'em ($3.00+$0.30) t8000/t16000 ante t2000 - 8 playersUTG+1: t80,394 MP: t1,167,932 HJ: t544,636 CO: t229,603 Button: t662,413 SB: t585,261 (Hero)BB: t970,835 UTG: t405,544 Preflop: (t40,000) Hero is SB with :club: :3h (8 players)5 folds, Button raises to t33600, Hero calls t25600, BB foldsFlop: (t99,200) :qh :5c :jh (2 players)Hero checks, Button bets t51584, Hero calls t51584Turn: (t202,368) :ts (2 players)Hero checks, Button bets t105231, Hero calls t105231River: (t412,830) :4h (2 players)Hero checks, Button checks

If you put him on aj, aq, ak, you should raise the flop as a semi-bluff, to get those sort of hands to fold. However, I would 3bet or fold preflopedit: not sure why you'd want to c/r the turn either, what are you trying to rep?

If you are gonna c/r, the flop is the obvious spot to do so. I agree with donk that you should 3b or fold preflop.....but as played you HAVE to c/r that flop.check raising the turn seems dumb.
