Setting:Small live tournament, about 18 players. After the break, so everybody's bought the add-on. About three hands into the round, blinds are 75/150 or something like that and I'm in the big blind.UTG raises minimum or some other slighly larger amount, a couple of callers and I have JTs. I call.Flop comes Q9x making me four to my flush and oesd. UTG goes all in about 4500 chips, i have him covered with about 1500 to spare. Everyone folds around to me and I call. Bettor has AA and I'm "favorite". Turn is A, i'm no longer favorite but still have a zillion outs, river is blank and I lose.My question is this. Is this one of those "tournaments are different from cash game situations?" I don't think I would have called if I didn't have him covered unless I didn't mind leaving at that point. It was only an hour or so into the tournament. In hindsight, it would have given me a pretty nice stack on a relatively tight table (except another big stack).Any thoughts?

Here's the problem for me.It's too early in the tournament for calling this bet.I have to fold here, because of the fact that it won't help me win the tournament imoReluctantly fold
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

I like it. Would you have folded if you suspected your opponent had JTs and YOU had the AA? Add to this the fact that your opponent could be making a move with something like 99 or AK or even a dumb AT/AJ, you HAVE to call here. Get a big stack and stomp they asses.Ice

While I think you definately have to call the all-in there, I am not sure that I would have called the raise pre-flop with 10 J suited. Sure, it looks nice, but even with a good flop to your hand you can get in a lot of trouble. Pot odds were probably good to make the calling of the raise good (kinda vague description on exactly what the odds were - couple of callers), but still not sure that it is an automatic call there.

I like the preflop call for the implied odds, but of course you'd rather not see him move all-in on the flop. I'm assuming you checked to him on the flop?I don't necessarily think you have to call the all-in; you're a slight favorite against TPTK or an overpair, unless he has a spade overcard, in which case it's basically a coinflip. But you're about a 2-1 dog against the nut flush draw or a set of queens. Sounds like you're getting in the neighborhood of 3-2 on the call, depending on exactly how much was in the pot to start (assuming you didn't bet the flop) - I don't mind the call, but I don't think it would be bad to fold and look for a better spot either.
Then you go to da box for 2 minutes by yourself, you feel shame... then you get free.

And there were at least two callers ahead of me making it a four way pot. I'll call the min raise in the big blind even with marginal hands to take a look at the flop. I'm pretty disciplined to lay down unless it really hits. JTs in that position I felt to be an almost automatic call. It's a leak in my game, but I turn it off if I need to.

I am not implying that it is a bad call pre-flop, as it is probably the correct one based on the pot odds. I am just saying that even with a very good flop, you can get in trouble (which is basically what happened), so I am not sure it is an automatic call for me.

I like both calls. You have 13 outs. Don't look at the result - look to see if you played it correctly. In this spot, you played it just fine. Sometimes you win, sometimes you don't.

If you're going to play that hand to a raise preflop (I don't mind it with a big stack), then I see no problem calling with your strong draws. You still had enough chips to rebuild if you miss.
