I recently started playing H.U. NL cash games a lot and Ive been doing great, (today sucked but other than that its been good). There are some players though who go all in with a number of hands preflop, this is sort of how their style goes:All in with AKs-AJs, Ak-AQ, AA-88, (sometimes KQs)limp call every other hand, but never push on the flop, turn, or river, with anything but the nuts, or a great hand (i.e. a set) these players seem to cause me the most trouble, In regular cash games I usually dont call an all in with anything other than KK, or AA. how should I be playing these guys heads up? do you think there is an optimal strategy to counter this one? thanks.

fold alot preflop, trap with monsters and pot sized bet any top or second pair along with betting good draws. watch for patterns, should not take long to pick up one or two betting patterns that can land you a monster pot or break the opponent.I think being afraid to fold rags or semi rags preflop against a good player can get me(you)in trouble fast. Now if you're playing 'fish' that's another story and all realities go out the window ! Playing weak players requires 'forgetting', as in forget all the money ewe took from fish and play right in the next match when you have a 'real' opponent. This HU NL cash game is my new gig this week as well. I've gotten whipped by one player, had epic matches against two other and leveled 9 or 10 other players. Overall I'm darn near even after about 2200 hands of 2/2 and 1/1 HU, looking to try my nemisis again with my revised strategies.

Steal a lot of pots. Aggressive aggressive aggressive. Raise every ****ing hand if you have to. He'll figure it out, but then he'll have to play back at you to put you in your place. And now- ta da!- he's in there mucking around, making marginal decisions like he doesn't want to be making. Against players like this, try to take every single pot if they show no aggression, and don't get trapped.Ice

Seems difficult to show repeated aggression and not get trapped, they really go hand in hand don't they ? The over aggressor can end up being the one mucking around with muck quality cardz, no ??Switching from one strategy to another in a flowing manner before it can be detected seems like a better strategy.I do agree of course with stealing pots which includes raising on the button with marginal hands at times to throw a wrench in your patterns. Two and three barreled bluffing has it's place as well.Very tasty poker IMHO for a nice change of pace plus preparation for finishing off tourneys.
