chris ferguson's all-in call, heads-up championship

Recommended Posts

I can't believe he makes that call with 9's and 2's when someone like Hellmuth is making that bet that early in the match. If Chris was running reverse psychology plays through his head and puts Phil on an outright bluff, semi-bluff or top pair, I still believe he is going way too far at that point in the match. I think it was just three hands into the second match with blinds at 4k-8k and a starting chip count of 640k. He loses and it's over. He doesn't even have top two-pair and the board has a straight and a flush possible. I just can't believe he made that call at that stage and the championship on the line. Made for great T.V. of course with Hellmuth falling to the floor when the nine hit. Anyone like that call and why?Blast Tyrant

it was a bad call, he knows it, you know, everyone doeswhen you check raise someone and they come back over the top allin, and there a possible flush and str8, you gotta lay down the 2 pairEveryone knows it was a bad call, even Ferguson, even Phil, he just got lucky

Yes, true, I believe Chris knew it was a bad call, the question is, how does a pro who is a well thought-out disciplined player make that kind of bad play with the title on the line? He fights through 5 peeps heads-up and then proceeds to make a very poor decision 3 hands into the deciding match? I just find it very hard to believe.Blast Tyrant
