Hand From Today's Ftp Double Deuce

Recommended Posts

Any thoughts on how I can play this flop and turn? I represented something huge. Got a guy to limp/call, then ace hits the flop. Thank you in advance for your input.Full Tilt Poker Game #16048472884: The $200K Double Deuce (113512432), Table 603 - 20/40 - No Limit Hold'em - 16:46:47 ET - 2009/11/15Seat 1: killer-bee69 (2,715)Seat 2: checkfold6 (2,785)Seat 3: avila99 (3,550)Seat 4: JackFleming (3,095), is sitting outSeat 5: dontmiss2577 (2,955)Seat 6: starfit (2,895)Seat 7: robert johnson1 (3,130)Seat 8: cisco1981 (7,285)Seat 9: MeWantTacoes (3,625)starfit posts the small blind of 20robert johnson1 posts the big blind of 40The button is in seat #5*** HOLE CARDS ***Dealt to starfit [Kd Kh]cisco1981 foldsMeWantTacoes calls 40killer-bee69 has 15 seconds left to actkiller-bee69 foldscheckfold6 calls 40avila99 foldsJackFleming foldsdontmiss2577 foldsstarfit raises to 400robert johnson1 foldsMeWantTacoes foldscheckfold6 calls 360*** FLOP *** [5s Ad 6h]starfit checkscheckfold6 bets 520Uncalled bet of 520 returned to checkfold6checkfold6 mucksstarfit has returnedcheckfold6 wins the pot (880)*** SUMMARY ***Total pot 880 | Rake 0Board: [5s Ad 6h]Seat 1: killer-bee69 didn't bet (folded)Seat 2: checkfold6 collected (880), muckedSeat 3: avila99 didn't bet (folded)Seat 4: JackFleming didn't bet (folded)Seat 5: dontmiss2577 (button) didn't bet (folded)Seat 6: starfit (small blind) folded on the FlopSeat 7: robert johnson1 (big blind) folded before the FlopSeat 8: cisco1981 didn't bet (folded)Seat 9: MeWantTacoes folded before the Flop

You are out of position making a huge bet, and now we have no idea how to proceed with our hand. Yes, this is a fold but we could've gotten away cheaper imo.

As played, you're never going to win the hand by check folding the flop. Now folding isn't horrible here, although it seems pretty weak to me. You could have bet about what the villain bet and not put another penny in if there was any further action. Since you made it 10X preflop however, you can see how this gets expensive.Villain could very well read your preflop raise as a preflop steal and checking the flop may confirm this for him. Don't assume that people will regard all big 10X preflop raises as strong, especially with just a couple of limpers in the pot. What you should never do is raise that big out of the blinds. A reraise of 200 would have been plenty and much easier to play postflop. You could even call and hide the strength of your hand, getting away cheaply if you think someone has an ace and possibly stack some fool with an underpair to your Kings. This takes a lot more post-flop skill however. In this spot, my standard play would be to raise to 200-220, and bet half- 2/3 pot on flop and seriously consider folding to a reraise.

Yeah, as mentioned never raise that much PF...usually a standard raise pre-ante and with limpers is 1bb for every limper. But I mean...yeah as played, i think it is fine, though people are horrible and this could easily be JTo or something stupid like that...but I would fold b/c we have a huge edge against the field. Nice job on the deep run sir!

Not sure how or why someone might read the 10x BB raise as a preflop steal. For one thing, why risk that many chips to get 60? Blinds are way to small for this to be considered.Anyway, yes, way too big and, yes, the ddude probably has an A...most likely AK/AQ. Who really knows, though? One overbet followed by a fold isn't going to give any more info.Keep it small(-ish), bro.

Thanks for eveyone's input. I learned my lesson early and kept my pf raises 2.5-4 bb's depending on how they were playing and the image I wanted to have.

I know you've heard it repeatedly, but to sum it up:Opening the pot with a raise is good but 3 times the big blind is pretty standard rather than 10.If people see you check/folding the flop after a big raise preflop they will try to exploit you by jamming a huge bet every time you check the flop (or at least I will).A lot of people will limp in early position with a monster hands like AA or AKs because they are afraid if they open with a standard raise everyone will fold and they won't get to play their cards. If somebody who doesn't usually limp suddenly does, get suspicious. The other day I raised 4 limpers on the button with JJ and ended up showing down with AA and QQ. Limp/call and limp/reraise from early position, especially if that player is tight preflop (doesn't try to resteal) = sirens going off.
