The Next Iron Chef

I don't know if anyone has been watching this but I thought I would see since I know there are a few Iron Chef fans out there and many cooking show fans.I am surprised that the Food Network can't make this show better. Something about this show runs me in the wrong way in terms of how it is produced. I love Alton but maybe he makes for a bad host? I don't know, it just pales in comparison to shows like Top Chef in production quality. I just had to mention that.I love how that Chopped judge is one of the contestants and in the first week she left bones in her fish. She is such a critical bitch on Chopped and to see her put into the "cook something great in a short amount of time" test and to flop a bit makes me smile. I don't like many of the chefs. That might be making it a bit hard to watch, but I like the Indian guy Mehta. He is pretty much the only one with any personality and he looks to be a great chef.

Agree about the pompous prick judge. I think one of the female judges is waiting for some chef to serve something flambe so they can "accidentally" spill it on him and torch his arrogant ass. I like the format. It is meant to be a little cheesy. It is much more about the cooking than the chefs. I think that is what is sort of "missing" - that and the fact that the challenges are not "balanced" and don't seem to be completely thought out. They can fight over ingredients and other things. Seems to make it a little "unfair". However I like the focus on food.On a similar topic, my wife said she was watching a recent episode of Iron Chef America and Richard "Faux Hawk" Blaze was the challenger and his sous chef was Nerdlinger from this season of Top Chef.

Definitely hasn't drawn me in like the first season did. But I'll still watch.

I hate how they allow a Chef to grab ALL of a given item, even if he has no intention of actually using all of it. And then they have a free-for-all to grab stuff. I just don't like this aspect of the competition. They'll have one spice grinder or other equpiment and a chef will refuse to let others use it. I understand this is a competition, but these aspects take away from my sense of enjoyment.

Agree on Appleman. I wasn't crazy about the Next Iron Chef the first time but since it is about cooking and it is a competition, I watch it. I know you all do not like Amanda Freitag but I am hoping she wins. Brad Farmerie had defeated Cat Cora in a battle but is already out of the competition. The only other chef to defeat an existing Iron chef is Jose Garces. I would have thought that maybe they would recycle prior contestants and I was hoping to see Chris Cosentino and John Besh vie for the position again. None of the Top Chef masters are in this competition so I wonder if in the world of cheffery, these are your A-/B+ chefs. Hard to say... but something is more off this season than the first.
