Ok so I was playing a .10 .25 live heads up game with my roomate who taught me how to play poker 2 years ago and this hand came up and here is info on my roomate:
He was a winning 2-4 NLHE player on absolute worked his bankroll up from about $200 dollars and decided to withdraw his money and take a 6k check it was taking 8-10 hours a day out of his life and getting hard for him. he hasn't played in about 8 months but i don't think that matter. He is very TAG but is capable of coming over the top hard on air once or twice. I haven't played poker with him for about a year but he used to be able to call my cards out perfectly a year ago so i know he can read me decently Hand: I am BB in our 4th hand and limp button to me with J8 off and i check. Flop comes 910Q rainbow giving me the nuts ( unless by the grace of god he limped KJ which would be ssoo weird). I think about it for a few seconds and decide to check hoping to at least induce any action. I figure a check raise looks a lot like flopping the nuts so I am planning to c/c and fire on almost every turn, praying for a 5,6,or 7 to give some lower draws. Was that check stupid or should I have just donk half potted? I was hoping to see a low turn and rep some, anything but the st8 i just wanted to try and trap him. FYI he didn't bite, maybe the thinking to long gave it away i only took about 10-15 seconds about usual, but the worst card in the deck came on the turn K still rainbow and i just knew there is no way i was ever going to get anything out of this pot now, but still check and just prayed he would bet what would look like a scary card, he donked and then I made what i think was my second mistake and just called could i have played this hand more retarded? I felt like an idiot after should i have just barreled? Im pretty sure i could donk every street he would not pay off that much unless he limped big -------------------- All I think when I play is: "You all a bunch of IIIDDDIIIOTTTSS!!!!"- The mouth

Stacks?
You know your hand isn't literally the nuts, right? I think I prefer a bet on the flop, but it really depends on the rhythm of the match, even one that just started. -------------------- If everybody is thinking the same thing, then somebody isn't thinking.

uhm we started 100 bb deep and our 4th hand so no real change. Yes i know it isn't literally the nuts but in a limped pot this is about as close as im going to get to a perfect flop the only problem was it i didn't think it was wet enough. i was hoping for turn to give a flush draw so he could semibluff into me. The flop check and turn call is my main concern, this pot is very small but i didn't think he pays me off that much when i just pound and see blanks. was my reasoning for choosing to take this line against this villain wrong? he is a good player he isn;t going to stack off light. My idea was to reverse how i used to play which was very longballish and go more small ball to set up some metagame later

I think you played it OK. It's just not that profitable of a situation.

I think you played it OK. It's just not that profitable of a situation. That was kind of my opinion but i was just kicking myself for not making but 10-12 BB on a flopped st8. Even worst A came on river. I hated having broadway right there -------------------- All I think when I play is: "You all a bunch of IIIDDDIIIOTTTSS!!!!"- The mouth

I haven't played poker with him for about a year but he used to be able to call my cards out perfectly a year ago so i know he can read me decently I'd lead at this flop. 1. We have a huge hand and we want to get value from an opponent who is better than we are 2. bolded... bet/call 3. underlined... fancy play syndrome? He is a higher level player who hasn't used any of his "moves for a while"... let's let him get creative while we build our pot... Bet>>>>>>>>>>>check imo Turn.... as played, meh... I dunno -------------------- If you wanna keep your rep up, you know you gotta step up...
