My point about recruiting... Miami has the most NFL players of any city at 33. THe next closest city is houston at 27. Ft. Lauderdale has more NFL pros than LA does. Florida is an absolute Football hotbed.
as someone who lives down here and sees the high school highlights all the time.....it's ridiculous. Rutgers (wisely) put up a billboard on I-95 right on the county line between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale to help recruiting. They showed some highlights on the big board at the Dolphins game today of the current quarterback from powerhouse Northwestern High (where Jacory Harris played) and on one play this kid threw a 40 yard line drive post for a TD and the whole stadium went "Ooooooooooooooooh!". It was a laser beam. Pennington dreams about throwing a ball like that. Kid set a school record with 7 TDs apparently (and the highlights were part of his player of the week celebration). I assume we will be recruiting him.

They had a Northwestern game on ESPN that I watched a little of, maybe that one.. I was just impressed that they were on National television.

That was actually a couple weeks later but yeah they have already showed a couple FL high school games on ESPN2 this year. I am starting to worry that Miami will run the table.....and so will Va Tech. Everyone else in the ACC looks to be somewhere between god awful and eh.

ACC would be a lot more interesting if Miami was in an opposing conference.

Now all you need is Miami to lose to oh, I dunno.. Virginia, to really make things interesting out there.

why are you blaming randy for running on 3rd and five? he isn't the offensive co-ordinator, he's not making the offensive play calls. Shannon is a great recruiter, and can get you players from Northwestern like Jacory, and believe me that's more valuable to you than a head coach who's a special teams specialist
I hope you watched the Clemson game today so you can see why having all the talent in the world wont work with a coach who is terrible. Just the worst coached game I have ever seen. Clemson picked apart Miami's secondary all day and we never changed tactics. No blitzing. No zone. Just doing the same thing over and over without success. Miami was very overrated and maybe the whole ACC still blows.Miami will NEVER win a title with Randy Shannon as head coach. Lots of draft picks sure. But they will never win a title because he will cost them two games per year with his overly conservative approach and his refusal to make adjustments when Plan A does not work.

Jesus christ fans are such doomsayers. If I'd told you that Miami was going to be 5-2 at this point in the season, before the season started, you would have been ecstatic. And now you're ready to hang shannon because Miami has got some press clippings. So absurd. Don't forget this team is extremely young, and will be returning basically everyone, before you go off blaming coaching. Also, if you insist on blaming coaching, you should be blaming the defensive coordinator for failure to call blitzes and adjust the defense, not the head coach. He doesn't call defensive plays.

It's not as if the HC can't tell the OC and DC no on a play call or call something entirely different himself. He does have the discretion to change the play call, you know.. being the coach and all.

:rolleyes:Sure a head coach can call or change a specific play, and make big decisions in certain situations. But the play by play game calling, and defense ( and offensive) adjustments are exactly what offensive and defensive coordinators are for. I think (most of the time) a head coach would be doing more harm then good by vetoing a Coordinator all the time changing the plays that are called. There are exceptions to this, coaches that call offensive (or defensive) plays during a game, but they are not particularly common, and the game has been moving increasingly away from them.
