timwakefield 69
Has he not seen 'No Country For Old Men' and 'There Will Be Blood'? 'Gangs of New York'? 'The Pianist'?Adaptation, The Usual Suspects, American Beauty, Amelie..it's a long list of things he didn't include, but it's just his personal favorites, so I don't think it's strange to omit a lot of great ones. But, Speed?? The Matrix? I guess they have a lot of 'kitsch' value, so maybe it's that.
speedz99 145
Sounds to me that he, unlike most snobby "film buffs", can appreciate certain movies for what they are, instead of what critics would like them to be.

Mercury69 3
Also, Lost in Translation is an extremely underrated movie. It's beautiful, hilarious, and fantastic.Agreed. As bad as Sofia was at acting, she makes up for it with her direction for this fil alone.
IQCrash 1
I love that Anything Else is on his list. It's one of my favorite Woody Allen flicks. Anyone who has ever dated a fucked in the head chick (and that is to say, anyway who has ever dated a chick) should watch this.
LadyGrey 8
Ever notice how everyone and their grandma wants to tell you how underated Lost in Translation is? Here's a hint: that means it isn't underrated. p.s. I personally think it's overrated. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, movie snobs.
LongLiveYorke 38
Ever notice how everyone and their grandma wants to tell you how underrated Lost in Translation is? Here's a hint: that means it isn't underrated. p.s. I personally think it's overrated. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, movie snobs. The concepts of being "underrated" or "overrated" are relative ones and only have meaning when the group who is doing the rating is specified. For instance, I could easily say that "Lost in Translation" is underrated by Lady Grey, and I would be correct. I could say it is overrated by movie snobs who live in the East Village of Manhattan and I would also be correct. Something can be underrated by some and overrated by others.I would argue that LIT is underrated by the general public, but those who like it the most are quite loud in proclaiming that it is underrated, making the impression that it is overrated. Also, I don't own a pipe, and I rarely smoke things, let alone statements posted on an internet board! LongLiveYorke 38
Blah, double post.I am assured by women that this "isn't that big of a deal" and "happens to all guys," but it still makes me feel pretty lousy and unsatisfying when it happens.

I mean, it was good, but I thought there were significant stretches that were a little forced. The concepts of being "underrated" or "overrated" are relative ones and only have meaning when the group who is doing the rating is specified. Something can be underrated by some and overrated by others.Meh...when people use those terms they're always referring to the general public unless they specify otherwise.I would argue that LIT is underrated by the general public, but those who like it the most are quite loud in proclaiming that it is underrated, making the impression that it is overrated.I would, and will, argue that it can't be considered underrated by the general public. Most people that have seen it rate it fairly high(ly)...you can't count people who haven't seen it as rating it low(ly). I am assured by women that this "isn't that big of a deal" and "happens to all guys," but it still makes me feel pretty lousy and unsatisfying when it happens.Amen.Who gives a shit what the general public rates something. Transformers 2 grossed 400 million this yearAgain, how many people see a movie doesn't necessarily translate to rating. For example, most of my friends saw that movie, adding to the total gross, but they freely admit that it was horrible (even though they'd do it all over again).

Or, lets get to something at least in the general ball park of LIT.... THe hangover grossed 300 million this year. I t's a completely boring and unimaginative comedy, and can't hold LIT's jock, in my opinion, but obviously mine is the minority opinion. The average movie goer doesn't like subtly and nuance. They like explosions and head trauma.
