Question For Any Wildlife Biologists Particularly Insect Life Experts

I've been hearing a sound outside our house for a good portion of the summer now that has been driving me nuts trying to figure out what creature it is that's making it. Best description I can give is it sounds like somebody using a straw to suck the last bit of liquid out of a paper cup. It doesn't last more than a few seconds but I've not heard it before this summer. Do any of you have an idea of what it could be? I live in Western Montana if that helps.
