Let me know if you think I played this correctly. This was last night at the Bike in LA. I sat down at the recently opened $300 min-$500 max NL Buy-In with $5-$5 blinds. After about 6 hours of playing and buying in twice for $300, I had only built my stack up to $1,000+/-. I'm in Cut Off with J9 clubs (what I like to call a "cracking hand"). Middle Position raised to $50 pre-flop (pretty standard of a raise at the table) 2 people called and so I called. The flop comes Jd, 8c, 7h, I floped top pair with a gut shot. The chipstack at that table with Aprox $3,500 bets out under the gun for $75 everone folds to me and I re-raise him $200 more. He thinks for like 5 seconds and calls. The turn comes Qc, he bets out $200 into me. At this point I'm like great, he probably called me on the flop with QJ or KJ but I'm really putting him on QJ. I now have even more draws because I have now picked up a flush draw too. I think for like 10 seconds and only call. The river comes 6s. I missed both my straight draw and flush draw. He asks me "how much you got left" I told him about $475. He pushes all-in.Now the entire night I've had the sickest reads on this guy. Everytime he'd be bluffing or didn't have a strong hand he would not make any eye contact nor would he even look down at the pot or even at the table. He'd just look up at the TV and wait for the player to make his move. When he did have a hand he was almost staring down the player involved and keep his eyes on the table and the chips.I sat there and looked at him for what seemed like 10 mins but was probably 1 1/2 min and all I could see was him not looking at me and not looking at the chips and just watching TV and I swear I could hear him saying in his head "Don't Call, Don't Call, Don't Call".Finally I thought to myself and said even if he isn't as strong as I first thought he was I may still be beat. I was sooooo soooooo close to calling him but I just kept asking myself is your J good, is your J good. So, I laid it down.Sure enough he flips over Ks,10s he missed his open ended straight draw on the turn. He says "nothing personal" and the dealer pushes him the pot.I told him nice bet on the turn and the only way he could have won the pot on the river was by betting all-in' so I wasn't too pissed off about his play. The only thing I regret is not re-raising and pushing all-in on the turn rather then just calling.
$1,000+ in the pot and i couldn't call....

so you had a tell that he was weak......you saw this tell, meaning he was weakand you folded.....kinda takes away the point of getting a tell on him

Yeah, the mistake was not on the turn. the mistake was getting a tell on the guy and then not using it. it's hard to trust yourself sometimes in those situations, but you have to do it. If you can be so sure he's bluffing every other time he's watching tv, you need to trust this when you're in the hand.

To XXXEddie & RISEorFall:Yes, generally I will go with my read and call it down. But, even though I knew that he wasn't that strong he may have been bluffing with the best hand. I didn't think it was worth putting in my remaining $475 to find out. All in all, I ended up NOT going on tilt and NOT steaming (which I think an average player would) and finished the night up $400. I didn't let the bluff through my game off. I trust my game enough to not let something like that affect me; in fact I was happy that he showed his hand which confirmed my read.BeanGW:Watch out for that and also remember to remain calm and steady your breathing when you're bluffing... Try not to show your chest and body breathing hard.HoosierAlum:In Position and on a table with close to $10,000 total in chips I'm willing to see a flop with Jc9c. If there were a raise and a re-raise then I would have folded pre-flop. Or, if I was under the gun and let’s say I limped in and it was raised to $50 behind me I would have folded pre-flop.

Yeah, if he's bluffing 99% of the time he doesnt even have a pair, especially top or 2nd pair. good job not letting it affect you though. But you asked if we thought you played it correctly, and we told you what we thought. if you pick up a good read on someone don't be afraid to use it. And don't be afraid of someone bluffing with a better hand than yours unless you can't even beat a high card.
