Bored at work, this is a hand from a couple months ago, details might be a tad off.

2/5 NL at hard rock.

This is my 1st hand at the table. However, since I love stereotyping, villain is a young guy wearing a hoodie and an I-pod, and he has a lot of chips. I'm assuming he thinks he is an all-star, and is likely to try to 'outplay' me. I'm assuming he is aggressive but not an idiot.

8-handed

hero: $500
Villain: Covers

Villain straddles to $10 on the button (hard rock straddle) he acts last preflop.

Hero is UTG+1 with A icon_suit_spade.gif Q icon_suit_club.gif and raises to $35

all fold to villain who gives me a look and calls $25.

($75) flop 3 icon_suit_spade.gif 3 icon_suit_club.gif Q icon_suit_spade.gif

Hero bets $40, Villain raises to $100.

What's our best line here?

We have the As so less likely he's on a flush draw. The board also paired so it's a nice board to bluff. I call and check/shove turn since based on your read, he might fire again.

Sounds pretty good I agree...though I would hate to give a free card to a flush draw and villains raise could be exactly that. Yes we have As but things like KJss, KTss or maybe K9ss, JTss, etc are certainly in villains range.

You can't fold. You can either reraise, or call and try to keep the pot as small as possible. He likely has a flush draw or even better maybe a weak Q. He would likely raise with either hand.
If he got lucky and hit trips, pay the man his money!

we could shove here before the board goes bad for him there is like what $217 currently so a call puts the pot at $277 leaving you with $365 left and any turn action commits and it isn't too much of an overbet. Plus, it looks extremely bluffish to do this now, being the first hand, and could make the table pay us off in later strong hands because it will give us almost a maniac super strong image. Pushing here could set up good metagame for the rest of the session and make people scared of you and also worried about whether you are crazy or not, letting you control the action of the table. I agree flat and getting it all in on the turn is the standard play but if this guy is half way decent this looks so LAGish that he may not put you on a hand and call. IDK it is just an idea but i probably don't act that crazy with my own chips just wanted to throw out the idea at least. Oh and this plan goes to hell if he got cute with A3 preflop but that would be so stupid for him to do. Destroy me but i just wanted to bounce this idea. Also we have out against anything but 3q and 3x that hits board on turn or river so we at least have pure outs to most of his range and a variety of folds and call by hands that we may in fact beat. IDK just an idea

PS: also lots of medium to strong pocket pairs by our wannabe villain could think we are just semibluffing a flush draw depends on how bad he truly is

+1 for this line. I'm probably taking this line against all but the rockiest opponents.

Also, straddling from the button and acting last preflop is actually kind of awesome. Must be confusing as hell though.

It is cool. It does take some getting used to.

Back to the hand.

Flop: Hero Calls $60

($275) Turn: 6 icon_suit_spade.gif

Hero Checks, Villain bets $200. Hero has $375 left.

Plan has not changed. If this is Ks Js that sucks. I think we have 0 folding equity at this point so if he folds to a shove laugh your nuts off.

Villain's pretty good; his line to me has perfectly polarized his range between the nuts and a bluff.

I think there's more value in calling with a scared look on your face and c/r the turn allin. K's are bad cards (less so the Ks), everything else we need to get pushy with. He's almost always going to bet the turn when you take this line.

As played and given the turn, we're obv just shoving. Villain betting the turn means to me that he doesn't have literal air, but could still be on a pocket pair or KQ, and thinks he's making you pay to chase the 4th spade in with your 99 or getting you off a pair of reds.

Kinda hate it, but I think we took a good line so far and have to finish with this.
