Live 2/5/500. Same game as just posted. Lots of action.Stacks:Hero $1,600Villain $2,200Villain on buttonHero is in BBMP raises to $30CO callsButton (villain) callsHero sees 9c7c and calls_______________________Flop: 6c 8s 9dChecks around to button, who bets $75.Villain is a huge monkey. He would put all his chips in with the sucker straight. He'd also spend $500 bluffing at this pot with air if I check him down. He'd pay off $500 on the river if he caught an over or two pair.He also usually pays off big hands on scary boards. Seeing a turn is massively +EVWhat do we do?

I would normally fold here, but given your villain reads I guess you hafta just c/c down. If another person tags along though, I'd c/f the turn.
Why the ef would you fold to a $75 bet in a $120 pot with top pair, open ender, and a backdoor?I think the only problem mt is having is between a raise and a call. Although OOP, I do like calling here because hitting your hand does not necessarily mean you're going to see the action shut down, and the edge we have in a raised pot against the monkey is much smaller than the edge we have playing passively and letting him fling his chips like poo into the middle.Even if we hit our hand on the turn, I still like putting on the brakes and giving him as much rope as possible. I don't wake up until the river, even if it's the most obvious thing ever, the 9d looks like a banana.

Against a normal villain all of our outs are very transparent. If the board pairs the 9 action is shutting down unless we're beat. If the board comes 4 to a straight the same. We're going to be in very awkward spots on the turn against decent players when we don't hit. It's just an ugly hand, like what are we rooting for on the turn? I guess the 4 card straight to come, but we aren't winning much more when that hits. If a club comes we're like zomg I hafta check/call another big bet!I think this is a deceivingly bad board for us in these conditions, I think your pf play is fine but this is just a great case of why playing suited connectors OOP sucks balls.

Good stuff (regarding strat) I think c/c any turn is good and then spring on the river if we've improved...And bolded is just great! <3 this thread already

This is fine for why check-calling is bad, but do you still think a check-raise is unprofitable in this spot against normal villains?I think if we're up against a normal villain we are so incredibly deep that check-raising almost any hand with decent equity will generate enough folds for us to profit.

I agree with King james your deep enough and if your read is a good one the players suck enough float unimproved and pop big if you improve. My only question would be did you see this villian when he had the nut hand? just because it sounds like a beautiful table we need to make sure down the line this hand we remember that even really bad players can still hit hands. PS Everyone wants an invite to this game!!!
