So while i'm having a bit of downtime away from Limit HE (I really want to finish SSHE), figure hey, I'll use this time to improve my stud play. I don't want to be one of those players who only plays hold'em. So anyway, here's an interesting hand for discussion from my session on Thursday. Plan to hit the tables again tonight. So discuss away. My thoughts of course thrown in as well. I'm not the only one learning from these stud posts, am I? am I? 'ello? *lol*I'm dealt: (3
, 4
) A
Since this was requested, cards out right now:4

brings in. 3 folds followed by two calls (K
and J
). I also call.Who likes this call here? Thoughts?4th StreetMe: (3

I bet here with the draw. I'm curious as to everyone's thoughts on this play. With no 5 seen yet I figure I take one shot at padding the pot if I hit; also possibly representing the split aces since only one ace is dead. Thoughts? Donk #2 is the only caller.5th StreetMe: (3

Wow. A little about my thought process thusfar on this hand: No other kings out, so he may have tripped up. But there are already three 3's gone. He bets, I call. 6th StreetMe: (3

REALLY curious to hear thoughts on my 6th street play. I'll explain, but I am not sure I like the play. He bets, I raise, he calls. I figure he will bet again on the river regardless of what I do. He hit the ace, and there are now at least three aces out. I remember thinking this at the time. The odds of the boat aren't great, hence the raise. thoughts?7th StreetI get a 6
, improving my straight (not like it matters). Donk bets, I call.Thoughts on the hand folks? Results later.

I'm raising 7th and calling a three bet.I just don't think he's got the Krablar boat.

Then you go to da box for 2 minutes by yourself, you feel shame... then you get free.

I agree with cdddc on 7th.Otherwise, I think you played it great from fifth street on.But, I think you should've folded 3rd - even if there weren't a dead ace, I don't think this would be enough hand to call with.I'm not sure if I like the bet on 4th either. You're going to have to fold to a bet on 5th unless you catch a diamond, a 5, or an A - that's only 1/3 of the remaining cards - and you're still under 50% to catch the flush even if you get a diamond. If the bring-in calls, he's ahead of you - I just don't think you have enough equity to bet here.

Stud is far from my strongest game, but I'd probably fold that on third too. One of your fours (Not a lot of improvement, but improvement nonetheless) is out, as is one of your aces. Basically, you have a backdoor straight draw, a REALLY backdoor flush draw, and not much else.I'm presuming this isn't Stud hi/lo, as that would change things quite a bit.

What was the ante/blind structure? If the ante's high, I don't hate playing on third. If it's low, then dump that hand quickly.Let's look at it objectively:One of your outs the A is gone.Diamonds are live, but it's a backdoor draw.Your other two cards are low. What are you drawing to by playing that hand? It's a decent Stud 8/b hand, but stud high - not so much.

Where do you play? At the low limits, too often the ante is very high online. I wish some site would spread a few tables of that notorious East Coast game 1-5 stud (spread limits). I love 1-5 stud.

I'd probably drop it on 3rd. Why no bet on 5th?
