I had been trying to lord knows how long when it finally dawned on me. I can beat this game if I just totally focus myself and play within the spectrum that is me.so I cleared my schedule and made sure I had 7 hours to play. My goal was to build the bankroll up to $400 so I could move up to 1/2 Limit hold em. And I know what you're all going to say: "You still won't have enough. You need 300 BB to move up."But you people are the same ones that mommy packed your lunches for when you were still in 8th grade. You have no moxie in you, no gamble. I pity the fools who keep me down.So I have been in a steady balance of crushing the 0.25/0.50 game and blowing it on bad reads/bad beats/misclicking when I stood up and gave myself a whale of a pep speech and told myself I just needed to concentrate like no other and beat the game.So as you can see I gave myself 7 hours. I play on PartyPoker mostly but for this one I switched it up to Pokerstars. I feel like too many people have too many notes on my style of play at Party. Too many people have tracked me and my winnings and they know how to combat my style. I'm really tight and twice as aggressive if I flop two pair or better so it's sometimes hard for me to get any action from the guys I play with because they're good note takers. So Poker stars here I come. And I realize this is like the 5th paragraph I've started with the word 'so' but so well! I mean oh well. I sat down at the table with a buy-in of $40 and was prepared for nothing but the best. I even downloaded and hit "repeat" on the song, "The Best Around." You might not be familiar with this song but remember the movie Karate Kid? Well remember during his tournament that song that goes a little something like this...you're the best... arouuuunnnndddd.nothing's ever gonna keep you down.you're the best... arouuuunnnndddd.nothing's ever gonna keep you down.I started off small and played tight for the first hour. And then I hit it big. "Wired aces or kings?" Knish would ask.Neither, I say back to myself. RAgs!I raise out of position (UTG + 1) with 3,9 offsuit because I want to give the impressive that I am in fact very strong and that you're going to need almost AQ or better to cold call that $0.25 raise. Plus if an Ace hit on the flop I could easily make a play at it and get a guy with AQ or AJ to fold he hand because he would be certain I had a set of Aces or AK, or even trip aces.So I get 2 callers (both in late position) so I know they're just dying to see a flop and think they have good implied moneys and will fold to any bet once the flop hits. So the flop comes 9-9-4 to my good fortune and here is where I make a brilliant move...I know that I am first to act and that if Ibet out at it it will make me seem too strong and they'll fold they're hand because they simply cannot beat AA or KK like I probably have (even though they don't know I just tripped on the flop with 3,9).So I check. I'm so elusive sometimes. Next guy checks and the guy on the button bets out. So stupid, I think to myself, if he really had any piece of that flop he would slowplay it until the river and allow someone to make a 2nd best hand. That's the level of pure poker thinking that i'm on. None of these other guys think on that level. It's just too comical. I wish I could play with people on my own level but I don't have the bankroll to commit myself to 10/20 NL cash games. I could beat it though no doubt. So I just call the flop bet so I don't scare him away but I make sure to "think" for a few seconds like maybe I'm a guy with AK that doesn't want to lay his hand down because I like it too much and I want to hit an Ace or King on the turn. The 3rd guy also calls... probably on a straight draw I think. The turn brings about an 8 so the board now reads 9-9-4-8 and I think to myself while cash register sounds are going off in my head - ching ching!! I think how would Daniel Negreanu play this hand, or how would Chris Moneymaker play it? How do i get the most bang for my buck?So I check it and look really weak because I want a guy to do the betting for me. the next guy checks like i knew he would (I read him dead on) and the button comes on betting again. What a dumbie! He really thinks his pair of 4's is any good here! Please. I almsot want to go Josh Arieh on him and tutor him or give him a nice warm bloodbath but I know fish like him are the reasons guys like me and Daniel make so much money in the long run. Fish swimming amongst the sharks they say. How about it.So I call his bet instead of raising because I want the 3rd guy to stay in but unfortunatley he folds. I guess he missed his straight but he probably makes a decent read on my and puts me on a boat because he might not be a fish like the other guy is. AT this point I feel like the button is staring me down even though we're on a computer but I just feel some sort of stranglehold or hostility involved so I go ahead and type in "Man I hope I hit my straight on the river"I did this to totally throw him off and ensure he bets his pair of 4's on the river for value or for more money. The river brings a King making the straight impossible so this guy if he even knows how to think will know I missed my straight. But I don't want to give him even that much credit. So I bet out at it. Bare in mind, the board is 9-9-4-8-K so there's not a whole lot that beats me. There are 3 spades but I don't put this guy on a flush because he never would have bet it out on the flop. After my bet he quickly raises me and now I know I set the perfect bear trap. I reraise and he quickly caps the betting at $2. I call (secretly wishing I could keep betting but they have caps for a reason - so fish don't blow their wadd on one hand). The computer reveals our hands and it turns out he has K,9!! Lucky bas*ard hit his full house on the river. I really think he would've have folded his hand on the flop had I bet out though. And he definitely folds his hand on the river if he doesn't catch that king. Sometimes slowplaying can do more damage against fish because they just don't see it or they don't think about their opponents hand. Either way, he never should have called my preflop raise. But that's how fish pay you off for the most part I'd say.Anyway, I went on to beat the game and build my $50 up to $63 which is good for 4 hours of play. I decided to quit after 4 hours instead of 7 because I was really have stomach issues and it hurt bad, plus the fish seemed to be biting back and not going for my traps like I had hoped. But that's all for now. I will write more about this in the future. Almost ready to move up though! Wish me luck. Or better yet, wish my opponents mercy!!!
