I'm 18 and last month I deposited $30 on Poker Stars and I want to build it up to $1000 and one day play in the big tournaments like the EPT, WSOP, WPT. At the moment it is at $50 but that's mainly down to the lack of playing time because of exams at college. I'm going to post as much as I can up on this blog but would really appreciate advice on anything.
Cheers.
Wish me luck.

Here is my opinion on online play: I get the impression that the majority of players online are so much better than the average life player. I attribute this to several factors: People online start young and are thus able to learn faster, everyone online has read several poker books and there are little helper programs available that assist online players and are obviously not available in live games.
For those reasons, I'm a below average player online, whereas live I'm above average (I consistently win live, whereas I consistently lose online).
My advice would be to read some poker books, if you haven't done so already. Normally I'd say that with 50$, you should stick to the micro limits when playing cash, but unfortunately the micro limits are rather random, so it's not proper poker. Still, if you don't want to lose it all, you should adhere to bankroll management principles, i.e. only play at limits where you can afford at least 10 or even 20 full buy ins.
Good luck!

Learn proper bankroll management and don't expect it to be quick or easy. Best of luck, good to see you're starting out with goals and not just throwing money around trying to hit big.

Sorry I've been a little quiet I went on a bad run down to $40. I managed to play in some heads up and I've won 6 lost 2 so my account is at $49. Strategy advice anyone?

Heads up sit and go's? If so, these will drive you crazy, well at least they did me. Happy Grinding!

I say the best way to build a bankroll is probably 1 table sit n gos, because, personally I think grinding it out at the micro stakes sucks, and as long as you play fundamentally getting top 3 or whatever isn't too hard. And if you lose in one of them just grind it out on micro, enough to get a buy in for the sit n' go. Honestly sit n go's are the way to go, because it gives you that final table experience, as well as allowing you to feel a sense of competitiveness. And also just be patient.

Been there done that and then some, although I believe I started with $20. The most important piece of advice I can give you is this: never give up. No matter how bad you run, (and you will run bad), dont give up, because when you finally make it and take down a big tourney, the feeling you will have is something I can not adequetly describe.

Heads up basically be very aggressive, raise alot from the button with almost any two cards and keep betting. In HU you gotta make things happen you cant just sit around and wait for big hands. Tighten up a bit when you're playing from the BB out of position though, but when you have position be aggressive and put your opponent under pressure. In heads up play the more aggressive player usually fairs better.

OK so I took your advice and played in a 9 man sit'n'go and it went perfect and I won. I ended up being heads up with 11,000 to his 1,000 and he went all in with A 9 and I called with A Q and the win.
Cheers for the advice.
Account is at $53.
