Drunk Poker at Home

Recommended Posts

Hi All,This is my first post to this incredibly friendly community (it's definitely refreshingly weird nowadays don't you think?)Here's the deal. I like setting up home games and there's a group of people that drink a lot and are inexperienced poker players. Now, this would appear to be an ideal situation to make some money (and it is) but there are certain problems as well. The number one problem is with dealing and it's happened more than once. Obviously no pro dealers so we take turns with the drunks. Misdeals at the beginning of a hand is straightforward enough. But what do you do when the turn (or river) card comes before the betting is over? Or if a card isn't burnt before the turn card? We don't exactly play for peanuts so somebody always gets pissed off horribly when this happens. I'm not sure what the official rule is 'cause I'm sure it wouldn't happen at a casino.Help please!

If the burn card is shown face up, show it to everyone then discard it and turn over the actual river or turn card. As far as what to do if a card is shown before betting is over I'm not sure. Bob Ciaffone (sp?) has put together extensive list of poker rules that might cover that situation. Just google "Robert's Rules of Poker" and you should find it.

Correct me if i'm wrong... but I think for the card that is show prematurely.. you would leave the burn card out... put the card that just came out back in the deck, and re-shuffle those cards... and just turn another card over.

Thanks guys.I suppose there's no way to deal with it without pissng somebody off. I've ended up dealing myself for 3 hours just so I wouldn't have it happen during my own hand. Just sucks when the turn card gets put pack in the deck when it completes your set, flush, etc.

Suited up is right if the river card is accidently shown prior to the river. However, the rule if the turn card (lets say 6 of spades) is shown is this, the betting goes on that would have happened. Then the normal river (lets just say 5 of hearts) card now becomes the turn card. Now after the betting is sdone the 6 of spades is shuffled back into the deck and now your burn a card and then expose the new river card.

Just for the record (and my morals) I'd just like to tell you it is a very dirty and ******* move to hussle your drunk friends out of money. Not that I'm going to encourage drinking but maybe you shouldn't take the game so serious and join in on the pary. There is nothing more fun then a drunk game of one eyed jacks, suicide kings, red nines, and little ones 5 card draw. It's a blast!

If you want to scam people out of money the best way is dealing from under the deck... if I played a bunch of drunk people I didn't know I would use my chops and clean them out.

so would I, but if your friends or people you play with on a regular basis are wasted I feel it is a little low to detroy them.

If the turn card is brought before actions is completed this is what you do.1. pull back the turn and leave the burn down.2.bring the river as though it was the turn that way at least that card is not lost.3.Burn a card and bring the new river. If the river is brought before actions are completed then you simply shuffle it back into the stub and bring the river again.

I love playing with a group of close friends and getting drunk and playing poker. I love playing poker drunk at the casinos too, but not too much, cuz i take those games too serious than playing with friends. But yea, getting wasted and playing poker is awesome. Or getting high while, either or.

it seems like i always do well when i'm drinking because it makes me more fearless and aggressive, and since my friends are pretty timid players, they muck constantly and focus more on refilling their drinks.
