it's not 'for free,' though. they are using it as part of their college education. they paid tuition for the luxury of working under pelosi. lord, I don't understand why anyone would do that, but there it is.it feels like he picked a weird spot to try to make his point, is all. there are people out there who legitimately don't want to make as much as minimum wage says they need to, for instance.
The point is that she would deny people the freedom to make the same choice in other industries; apparently she thinks she's so important or politics is so noble that it is OK to not pay people trying to break into politics, but people trying to break into the fast food industry or Target or other industries is not afforded the same choice because people like her would deny that right. Are you defending that position, or do you just think it's a trivial issue?I can assure you, it's not trivial for the people at the bottom of the economic ladder.

I think there are unpaid summer internships handed out at koch and other companies through KU, for course credit. I'm not 100% on that. it's a strange arrangement.I'm neither defending the position nor calling it trivial. I do think people ought to be able to elect to work on a volunteer basis if they choose, and I often wonder how our employment numbers would look if the minimum wage laws weren't in place. it isn't a huge issue with me, and hell I'd probably make less at mcdonalds if they were gone.

Citi Group is retarded. http://online.wsj.co...5369915983.htmlAlso, WTF at announcing stuff like this. "Oh... so if we stop paying our mortgage then we pay less? Sounds good."Why does this country want to punish people who aren't late on their payments? Does this make sense TO ANYONE!!?!?!?!?!?!?!

a common misconception. most of the states taking a stand against the stimulus and federal spending are in the group of states that get more back for their taxes.South Carolina, for instance, in 2005 (the most recent year we have data for at this point) received $1.35 in Federal spending for every $1.00 it paid in taxes. Ironically, it is the big liberal states that are getting screwed for South Carolina and Louisiana's benefit.http://articles.lati...cal_me-budget15from 2003: Federal returnsEighteen states, including California, sent more tax money to Washington in fiscal 2003 than they received back in federal spending. I didn't think this was worthy of a new thread but I couldn't figure out where else to put this. So anyways:Does it seem to anyone else that Social Security is the biggest Ponzi scheme ever? We have the youth of today paying into a failed system that is then taking that new money and giving it to the old people. Or am I just not looking at it correctly?
There was madness in any direction, at any hour…You could strike sparks anywhere. There was a fantastic universal sense that whatever we were doing was right, that we were winning…. And that, I think, was the handle-that sense of inevitable victory over the forces of Old and Evil. Not in any mean or military sense; we didn’t need that. Our energy would simply prevail. There was no point in fighting-on our side or theirs. We had all the momentum; we were riding the crest of a high and beautiful wave….So now, less than five years later, you can go up on a steep hill in Las Vegas and look West, and with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark-that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.

What do you do after you've spent more money than any administration in history? How do you justify more spending?Well, you need more money to hire people to watch how the previous money is being spent, of course.http://reason.com/blog/#133024Of course, then we'll need some money to watch the people who are watching the people who are spending our money. It's trickle down economics for bureaucrats.
