I want to get my son a bike for Xmas. Here is my dilemma. I want to get him a good bike, but I also don't want to spend a fortune because he will only use it for 2 years or so.

This seems like about the best bike I could find:

It's a specialized 12" bike, and the cheapest I have found is $159.00

Most of all the bikes are crappy walmart huffy themed bikes that I have found and I don't want to get him one of those. I really don't want to spend over a $100 bucks, and I have had no luck on ebay/craigslist. So if anyone is bored....

I was gonna say you're crazy, but I just looked at Target and they do look way worse for the kids ones than the bigger ones.

Is 12" the right size?

Edit: Not sure how they are, but it sounds better, lol... http://www.performancebike.com/shop/profil...ategory_ID=3030

Pretty sure 12' is the right size. Those bikes at target are crap too. They would fall apart if used enough. I am kind of a snob when it comes to stuff like this for my kids. I don't want them to be spoiled, but I also want to buy quality.

GT had one for 139.00, but I have heard that GT is worse than huffy now. It's been awhile since I have looked into things like this.

El Guapo do you have a Costco near you?

If so, I would check there. I have got nice bikes for cheap from there in the past.

Can this be a christmas list thread also? Here is mine:

Sharks or Warriors tickets
Blue Ray player
Vans slip on shoes with the Ugg type fuzzy shit inside
DVD's: Fresh prince of Bel-Air, Dark Knight
Gift Certificates: Books, music, movies
Coaches chair (I'm a swim coach and they all have these stupid fold up chairs you are supposed to have at competitions and I need one)
Clothes (I'm not picky) I need pants
sunglasses (mine just broke)
hat (any flexfit works)

I don't expect all of them, I'm hoping for the Blue Ray player though. If I don't get it I'll just buy one.I know the Fresh Prince DVD sounds lame, but I seriously watch that shit every single time its on. I have a birthday coming up in December also w00t. I already know I'm getting the coaches chair because I saw it in my dad's truck.

I barely play video games anymore and I still love my PS3. The upconvert feature keeps me from buying a blu-ray disc unless it's a movie that really deserves it (Dark Knight, for example). I still buy regular DVD's and play them upconverted. I haven't found a better blu-ray player.

I had not seen that one in particular. I just have aversion to bikes that look like a motorcycle.

Seems like they made all of them look like something. It's pretty insane.

Doesn't really matter what quality you buy when your kid is still growing. Before you know it, the bike will be too small. As long as your kid thinks its cool that is all that matters.

My kid out grew most of his bikes before they fell apart (it was his last expensive bike that needed the most repairs. That was the bike that was the largest and the one that he did tricks with.)

Also for the record, when I was like 13/14 my friends and I rode the shit out of our bikes and my friend had a Huffy and he absolutely beat the total crap out of that bike and it held up like you wouldn't believe.

I agree with Theresa, EG.

My boys are 8 and 5 and they both outgrow their Wal-Mart bikes LONG before they wear them out.

I admitted earlier I am being a snob smug about this, but point taken.

plus, trust me on this, the cooler they are (esp. like motoX in my experience) the more the boys will like them.
