I think one of the reasons that baseball is so entwined with its own history is because the average career is probably longer than in any other major sport. Also of course the league has been around for over 100 years, but when you play so many games every year and so many consecutive seasons with so many people, so many things get intertwined. Nelson Cruz: My favorite player when I was a kid was Vladimir Guerrero.
Karl: She was a bit -- what's the word that you can use, cuz I don't wanna offend anyone?
Steve: Was she a homeless person?
Karl: Yeah but sort of mental homeless.

Oh snap, my namesake just got the Roberto Clemente Award. (note, I'm using this as the general World Series thread, because the Giants are lame)

I actually kind of do have a place in my heart for these Giants, cuz they're mostly a bunch of misfits and cast-aways (and some amazing young pitchers) who have somehow made it to the WS and are kind of kicking ass. On the other hand though, I'm pretty much always gonna root for the AL unless it's the Yankees.

yeah its awesome to see them kicking butt without any huge stars on our team. a bunch of journey men coming together and playing great baseball. kinda like the 2004 red sox. :club:

It's a nice sentiment, but we actually had a pretty major powerhouse that year. I guess we did actually have a lot of old veterans, but we also had a lot of superstars.

Not a bad start.... Holland pitching tonight...winds 30mph blowing to left field. Should see several yard balls

We take our 6 - 0 start on a friggin tough road trip.Orioles...can't believe the good start they are having..Then to the Tigers where it seems we always play poorly for some reason...Then to the Yanks who reeeeeaaaaaalllly hate us after getting served in the playoffs last season.Outscored opps 42 - 20 so far but runs are going to be tough to get in Baltimore.9 games.... I'll take a 5 - 4 and be pretty dang happy.

you guys made the postseason for a reason. but... great pitching shuts you guys down. you need more pitching if you want to contend for a title.

Could not be more true.Great pitching will always beat good batting.Tommy Hunter should be back in a week or so....Colby Lewis is pretty solid and CJ Wilson is throwing good.We could use 1 or 2 more big arms though. Our relief pitching is kinda scary.Time will tell...

i think you guys can make it back to the world series if you make a move or two for some starters. too bad cliff lee left, you guys would of been the AL favorites easily.

9 -1 with 152 to go.Yea.... would have loved to keep Cliff but I do respect that he went where he wanted to go and didn't make a move based on money.I think we could use a stud catcher and another Ace starter and 4 or 5 better relievers.Alexi Ogando has surprised that heck out of me so far. Matt Harrison is pitching better than ever so if we can just hang on for Hunter and some other healthy pitchers.... could be a fun season.

Third base coach needs to learn how to not cause unnecessary collisions at home with his superstar hitter in a mid-April game.

Because a mid-April game is somehow worth less?
