OK. You play 5/10.One night you see a huge fish that you follow around at the 20/40 tables, all by himself, with only $200 in front of him.Do you play?

My best guess is that he's trying to be cute with his money. It's not worth it though, who knows, maybe he's got a friend that is going to join the game, and he's just the bait
Last night I stayed up late playing poker with Tarot cards. I got a full house and four people died.

I was doing some math:He has $200 and you will sit with $1,000. At most you can win $200 but the other guy can win $1,000.You have to be a big favorite heads up to risk those odds. Pluse $1,000 in 1/3 of your roll.Sound about right?

Too risky, esp. w/ the bankroll. But I can tell it tempted you 8) New strategy: wait till he gets to low limits again, lose a pot to him, get all bill fillmaffy, and try and sucker him into a HU game

What kinda bad is he? Aggressive, highvariance bad? or "I can show an autoprofit by raising nonstop" bad?I probably wouldn't sit, just because someone's gonna see TWO fish going at it, and sit down... etc etc. You won't have a long enough window to bust his ass.Ice

Is that right? If you play heads up against a player who's equally as skilled as yourself, and you sit with $1000, and he with $200, yes, you're risking 5 times as much $$, but aren't you five times more likely to win his $200 than he is to win your $1000 (if you will both play until you run out)? But I think you'd want to get the hell out of there the instant a 20/40 regular sits down.....
Then you go to da box for 2 minutes by yourself, you feel shame... then you get free.

That's why I was asking.

Ok, then as long as you have an edge over the other guy (that's larger than the rake), then situation would still be favorable to you.So the questions are:1) Are you sure he's a fish (compared to you), and not a decent 5/10 player who just sucks at 20/40?and2) Could you handle the bankroll hit if the cards don't cooperate?

I ended up not sitting there and played in a few 5/10 shorthanded games. Made more money than I lost yesterday. yay! :D I think it would be detramental to my health if I lost $1,000 two days in a row so I decided against it. But for future references I was wondering. Hmmmmm.I think it's an easy fold.

Yep, easier fold than 72o UTG, but that's just me. This is where the money manager in me beats down the gambler in me. It's that whole standard deviation/risk of ruin thing. Even though the fish looks juicy, making it seem like your risk of ruin against him is very low, your variance and S.D. at the higher game is going to be high enough to negate the advantage you have against the bad player. In the end, anything that presents even a *remote* chance of crippling your roll should be avoided, imo.
