I borrowed this from another thread....speedz99Poker Forum Veteran-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Joined: 05 Jan 2005Posts: 401 Wed, May 11th, 2005 1:03 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- If there is even a .0000001% chance that the regulations and search procedures will prevent another attack, then I could not care less if Daniel gets stopped for 5 hours every time he steps on a plane. It does make the most sense for terrorists to pay cash last minute, because it keeps them under the radar. The FBI keeps tabs on thousands of extremists, so they need to minimize their exposure to the system. Daniel, sorry it's a pain for you, but come on...flying around the continent first class to play poker and promote the game you love (and get rich in the process)...it's hard for your average forum member to be sympathetic. For the record, I don't think your journal entry was censored. I think there are too many hyper-sensitive people lurking around here._________________Life's a garden... dig it. ....and I have to say I so agree with this!! After reading Daniels complaining in several blog entires on airport security, I was just kinda sitting here shaking my head about the whole thing. I've done a fair bit of air travel between Canada and the US over the past few years, and have passed thru 13 different US airports at one time or another, including Chicago O'Hare, Dallas, Houston, Las Vegas, Denver and San Fransisco. Most of the time, I don't get searched, but certainly have on occasion, including once when I had to book a last minute flight back to Canada for a family emergency....booking last minute = search. So, I'm wondering...what makes Daniel, as a professional poker player, also an expert on airport security? I find it rather pompous of Daniel to make these comments about the stupidty (in his opinion) of airport security, when I would venture a guess that he has no expertise in this area whatsoever. As far as his comment that the terrorists could figure out to book in advance with a credit card instead of cash etc....my guess is that these folks don't really want a paper trail of their activities via credit card (even with a "fake" name it still gives the FBI something to work with to trace them)...hence the use of cash! I guess it's tough to be rich and successful and still have to put up with the inconveniences of the common man....but hopefully Daniel will be able to fight his way through the stress of these experiences. (SW) I know I'll probably get my asss flamed off for this....and the thing is, I have been a fan of Daniel's for quite a while, but reading some of this kind of stuff (also his complaining about having to sit beside 2 old ladies on a flight, who were apparently sick and crippled, and making a crack about their personal hygiene blew me away)....has certainly given me a different perspective.
Gonna end up a big ol' pile of them bones

I'm all for airport security cracking down to avoid disasters. I just think that the method for profiling in this country is much weaker than in other countries (think Israel). We are so paranoid in this country about being "politicially correct" that instead we came up with a system that is so easily beatable for the "bad guys." Is there something hooribly wrong with stopping someone with a middle eastern or Muslim background and no job to speak of? Wouldn't that, in the long run be better than basing our searches on when people book their flights? It's not like the searches infringe on people's rights. I am personally pro profiling, but can respect those that think it may be wrong. I personally disagree. I'd rather have a guy named Muhammed Murakbar searched than I would a 72 year old woman named Alice Green. It's not racist, it's simply more of an accurate profile in my opinion.

Daniel, I completely agree with what you are saying here....I have no problem whatsoever with profiling....as well as the safe guards of searching people who book late or with cash....in other words, I'm all for the whole package. I think they DO flag people with Muslim names and suspicious appearance, AS WELL as other potenial indicators such as last minute bookings and cash bookings. And I guess what I was saying here was....because your activities cause you to set off one aspect of the flagging system (cash, last minute, one way), although it is inconvenient, you just kinda have to accept that that's the way it is. None of us enjoy being held up by a search at the airport, but at least for myself, I just accept it as a fact of life when travelling....the more safe guards in place, the better in my opinion.

When the plane recently strayed into White House airspace and they had to evacuate everyone and disrupt everything for 3 hours I almost cheered.Maybe when those boneheads in DC get affected by simplistic stupid securty measures they will make an effort to defend us and not protect their re-election chances. DN's comment about El Al is a perfect case in point. Never been hijacked, yet most hated people on the planet ( next to Lawyers of course )The really sad thing about airport security is while DN is taking off his shoes, across the airport there is a G-5 which has a limo drive up to the steps and loads the bags directly into the plane, and the passengers board without ever going through any security. Not all airports are like this, but MOST of them that allow private jets are like this. And while they evacuate the White House for a cessna which, if flown at top speed into the building, it will basically scratch the paint, a G-5 with full fuel will probably plough through half the building before it explodes. But you need money to rent a G-5, something the terrorist don't have I guess. Lucky for us.
