Thanks again for starting this....because now Im addicted to starting my collection. When I get my mind on something..I don't stop. GG poker.
Start herehttp://www.videogame...com/nesrare.txtObviously, buy the ones you enjoy playing the most first, but after that, when you enter the 'collecting' phase, focus heavily on B+ rarity and higher. You can still get a lot of B+ rarity carts for pretty cheap but they're getting harder to come by and selling for more and more every year. Part of the reason it's a fun hobby is because it's so cheap. You can get carts for $2-$6 each, all day. Also, check local flea markets. Virtual certainty that there will be a couple vendors there with NES games. Hit these HARD since you'll usually come out better than ebay, once you factor in shipping, plus you have a shot at hitting a rare cart for a cheap price since flea market vendors obviously know nothing. Unfortunately, NES games are pretty rare in Garage Sales anymore, so it's a needle-in-a-haystack sort of thing. 6-8 years ago, they were as common as air.

There is a used gaming close to me, I have not been in it in awhile, but they bought and sold (similar to a card shop) and had NES games from $1 up to $50 (Zelda/Metroid). A few years back I bought my wife an old NES because her's broke, but all we have is Super Mario/Duckhunt, 2 controllers and the gun. I think that ran me $30 on Ebay. I have no idea what happened to all my old games, but I guess I sold them when I got my SNES, and kep that same path going.I did however find my old Turbographix 16 and BONK. Which was like my favorite game for a good year. Remember when 16 bit was the future of gaming.

As a very coarse rule of thumb, complete games (box, manual and game) without any serious defects (tears, writing, etc) will add 100% premium over the price of a raw cart. Again, very coarse rule of thumb. Factory sealed games- particularly 1st generation "black box" ones- can have enormous premiums. There is no standardized price scale based on rarity alone, as demand plays the biggest role. In a chicken-or-egg sort of conundrum, I don't know if rare games were unpopular because of their scarcity, or if their unpopularity caused production levels to be low, thus causing them to be rare. What I do know is that games certainly don't price equally- there are some very scarce games that sell for a good bit less than a clean, working copy of Zelda or Mike Tysons Punch Out, even though the latter are common as water, albeit popular enough to have sustainable demand for them. As we all know, the entire concept of "price guides" - where magical, hypothetical prices were arbitrarily set by dudes in a magazine office somewhere- was rendered obsolete by the advent of ebay, where real world prices are arbitrated in real time. Just pay attention to ebay sale prices and try to scale your purchases into the lower end of auction realized prices.Another thing- if you're looking for a particular game, always make sure to search it in quotes, with "search titles and descriptions" checked. There are a lot of people selling bulk lots of NES games with the actual game titles not in the auction title but contained in the text body- in these, you might be able to get the game you want for an average cost basis of $2 when buying it in a lot (full of other games you need anyway) whereas it might cost $10 + $5 ship if you bought it as a single.

The video on Friday the 13th is Nerd at his best. He kinda tries too hard in his most recent material, but they're still funny. Other favorites include the Fester's Quest, Top Gun and Power Glove vids, all great. By no means should you watch the Power Glove vid before watching the Top Gun one, otherwise one of the best jokes will be ruined. He has chronological links on his Myspace to all his vids. http://www.myspace.com/thenintendonerd
The Power Glove... its so BAD!I love the Nerd

I guess this is all unnecessary rambling because Hollywood personifies something I hate about most people. He can take valuable knowledge, stare it right in the fucking face and never let a single sentence absorb into his brain.

Scram, you should watch the latest episode that was put up today, in the beginning you can see how extensive Nerd's collection of games is and while doing reviews of all the Dracula games he gets into some rarities.http://www.gametrail...ayer/41509.html

Best of the lot is Hatris.Yuo wouldn't be making a mistake buying that Cheetahmen II, either. It's in the $250 range with 15 minutes left, but it will close higher. I'm guessing $350 range since it has box and every hardcore complete cart collector knows that a Cheetahmen in box is insanely scarce.

Closed @ $325, I would bet my nutsack that the winning bidders proxy was either 350.99 (if he sucked), 351.99 (if he was remotely experienced) or $361.99 (if he had defensive proxy skills) .

I'm pretty much on collecting hiatus since I already have more than I can play and there are other things sucking away my money, but a decent Cheetahmen II is on the short list. I *am* going to the Portland Retrogaming Expo next year, hell or high water.
