Here's most of my collection (plus one more Rubbermaid container full) We're moving so I had it all down- figured a good time for a pic. Approaching complete of all the commercial issues- only a couple hundred more to go. I've been buying them up for the past few years- focusing on the rarer ones and working down to the common ones. Not nearly as efficient as ROM's, but substantially cooler. Plus, whenever anyone aged 25-34 comes over and sees the racks full of old NES games, they basically shit themselves and revert to being 9 years old, which is kinda fun and allows me to dodge the imperative to make actual "conversation" with them, since I can just plop them down in front of Bubble Bobble and they STFU. Would love to chat or collection-strategize with other collectors.

I like the Zeldas (obv), all of the Marios. Qix, some of the classic arcade games (Elevator Action, Karate Champ, Kung Fu), Star Tropics, Tetris, Contra, Punch Out, ... Some of the more esoteric ones stayed esoteric for a reason. During that time, they cranked out a LOT of crappy games, but today, those can be some of the hardest ones to come by.I have most of the really rare ones (Surprise at Dino Peak, TMNT Tournament Fighters, Jimmy Connors Tennis, Snow Bros, etc).Haven't bothered to get a Stadium Events as it's just too expensive for what it is IMO and some of the desirable bootlegs (like, the "Adult Series" - Peek-A-Boo Poker, Hot Slots and Bubble Bath Babes) I will eventually get.The only one I don't forsee myself ever getting is the Nintendo World Championships Cart. They are insanely rare and hugely expensive.

I love playing the original Nintendo games. I mised midnight at a new years party a couple years ago becasue I was playing Punch Out in the basement lol. My old Nintendo took a crap and I tried taking it apart and never was able to put it back together.

They're retarded easy to fix, don't worry.. 75% chance all you need is a new 72 pin connector (assuming it wasn't all together dead and just wouldn't do anything). If it's totally dead, you can buy a reissue system for pretty cheap. Go here and you can see pics of how 72 pin replacement is done.

Yeah I was like fourteen when I did it and dont think I have the system anymore. I might start looking around ebay this winter but right now I need my money for other things.

If you're going to jump in, I'd highly suggest starting with getting the rares first (in addition to the classics you enjoy playing most, obv) and working down. They seem to be going up in value pretty quickly as the generation who enjoyed them as kids are entering their earning years- this is particularly true with the ultra rare/desirable ones. For example, I bought my complete (in box) Flintstones: Surprise at Dino Peak for $140 a couple years back. Today, the box alone is worth almost that.

Assuming he was really complete with all gray carts (which he definitely appears to be- I counted one column to be about 40 games, so with 17 columns, he's smack-dab in the correct range for a complete gray cart collection), that is/was a ridiculously good deal for someone who had the money, loved NES games and didn't want to bother doing all the legwork.Here where he shows his choicer ones...The one on the top left is "Fire n' Ice". Not too expensive as of yet, but very scarce and probably will be in time. I spent $30 for mine with box a couple years back (box/manual adds a serious premium to some games- today, that cart would probably bring $75-100) and like a month later, found a mint condition one at a Flea Market for $4 which to date is my best score for a NES cart found "in the wild" .

Every now and then I'll get the itch and DL an emulator to my PC, play for a couple weeks and get bored all over again. I'm not so much a nostalgic guy, for the most part. The only thing I really like about the old NES games is watching the Angry Video Game Nerd bitch about them.

The video on Friday the 13th is Nerd at his best. He kinda tries too hard in his most recent material, but they're still funny. Other favorites include the Fester's Quest, Top Gun and Power Glove vids, all great. By no means should you watch the Power Glove vid before watching the Top Gun one, otherwise one of the best jokes will be ruined. Yeah,now that I've spent the better part of an hour watching some of his other reviews, he most definitely tries waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to hard... I think part of the reason his Simons Quest/Castlevania review came off so well was because it was his first one and totally 'genuine' as opposed to the later reviews that were apparently made after he had gained some degree of notoriety. The guy has a great sense for sarcastic humor, but it's clear that he probably has no social skills whatsoever and this really comes through in his later reviews. Everything is very forced, very scripted, presented with as much fluidity as an 19 year old porn actress and hugely contrived. Also, the occasional "fuck" works very well for effect, but when you're drumming up childish "I'd rather suck a diarrhea fart out of a dying aardvarks balls" 1st level shock value stuff, it kinda detracts from everything else.Also worth noting that the games he chooses to review are notorious for being positively terrible , usually as a result of grossly difficult or superfluous game play dynamics. I disagree with his McKids review, though. Yes, it's an unapologetic rip-off of SMB3, but it was a very solid, top 10% game.
