Tipping The Waitstaff While Playing

Recommended Posts

When you are at the poker tables at the Vegas casinos and you get a free beverage....how much do you tip each time? I tip a dollar for each drink I get. Not enough or just right?

I am a bartender, so I may tip a little different. I always tip $20 on the 1st drink and I never have to wait or ask for another. They just magically appear at the right time.
What about every drink after that?

depends on what I am drinking. Btl beer or standard mixed drink, generally $1. If I am drinking something that is a little better, then I will tip $2-5.
So say you drink 6 beers in a night. You spent $25 in tips. IMO not worth it. I would rather tip $6 and save $19. So let's say $19 / night and I usually go out twice a week, so 104 x $19 = $1,976 / year. Yep ... not worth it!

That's too much. It just is. Unless you know the server. But yeah, I don't see the point here.

I understand how they'll come back real fast after the first 20 dollar tip but then they expect it? Then if you tip only 1 dollar after that, do they still come as quickly?

Yes they do come back and no they dont expect it for every drink. Have you ever been out at a bar when it's really busy and wondered why the bartender or waitress paid more attention to someone else? Its because they were tipping better. I would rather spend a little more and get great service. Keep in mind if the service sucks, I dont tip.

I usually tip pretty well. Between one to five dollars per drink, depending on the server. But I guess $20 right off the bat to get their attention works too.

I agree 150% with the first part. The part I don't get is this: If the service s*cks isn't it too late ? Aren't you out the $20 ?

It definitely gets the job done and is THE way to go at a busy bar or club. The advantage of doing this at a bar is that you're the one going back and forth for your drinks. The bartender will acknowledge you almost immediately and take care of you. While at the poker table you're on the waiter/waitress' clock. If he or she doesn't come along but once in a while you're out the $20 and there's nothing you can really do about the slow/sporadic sevice.I tend to give $1 for every beverage and if the service is pretty good i'll bump it up from there on out...Dan

When wife and I went on our honeymoon on a 9 day carribean cruise we found a nice bar we really liked the first night. I tipped the bartender and waitress $50 each the first night b/c they were very nice and made good drinks, we planned on this being our main hangout when we were at sea. That waitress at that bar also ended up being our waitress for the scheduled dinner everynight. We went back to that bar everyday/night and we paid for maybe half the drinks we ordered because of that tip (I also tipped $5 for my wife and I's drink if we didnt get charged, two bucks if they did charge us). The drinks we were ordering were $8-$12 each b/c cruise drinks are pricey. Every night at our dinner we had our favorite drinks waiting for us at our table when we got there at no charge. On the last night there was a bottle of champagne for us, all from the waitress and bartender. Also our drinks had more booze in them than normal and the bartender always used top shelf liquor even if we didnt ask for it. My wife was drinking flavored martini's and he was using top shelf vodka and my whikey and coke was crown royal (we had a drink here and there that wasnt made by our fav bartender and they seemed watered down). I ended up tipping the waitress and bartender another $50 each at the end. They easily saved me $400-$500 in drinks so it was worth it.We met a cool couple on the ship that also started tipping well b/c we were. The couple just went on another cruise a few months ago and they saw the waitress and the waitress recognized them first. The waitress asked how we were and the couple told the waitress my wife and I had a baby and the waitress bought our baby a big stuffed horse (like a teddy bear) from Barbados where they are famous for the horses. about 2ft long and 1ft tall.So in short, a little gratitude can go along way.

I never tip the waitstaff ... after all ... it is tough walking in those high heels (this for the women, one hopes ... :ts ) and the waitstaff are balancing trays full of drinks. If you tip them ... the drinks on the tray make a huge mess when the tray hits the floor. :D Always let the waitstaff by your chair and give them plenty of room ... don't tip them! They could get hurt! :D I do - however - offer a gratuity .... of about $1 a drink :club:

I was at a crap table once....just pulled up when the CW asked....I tipped 5 for the first one, which got her attention...I got on a dice heater and then it was a race to see if I could drink them faster than she could bring them at 5 bucks each...I lost count at 15 or so...I gave her a 5 dollar red chip each time....nights like this is why I quit drinking 6 years ago..

I have two tipping systems, depending on the waitress. If she has big tits and a fake smile, and condescends to me and calls me all kinds of inappropriate/insincere pet names like "cutie," "honey," "baby," etc., and behaves in such a manner as to suggest that she's sexually interested even though she's not, I tend to tip BIG. But if she's flat-chested and/or tries to treat me like we're both people dwelling in a state of reality, interaction through economic function, eased with basic human pleasantries, forget it. Buy some tit, ugly.

Sounds about right. This will now be my new tipping rule.
