What about every drink after that?

depends on what I am drinking. Btl beer or standard mixed drink, generally $1. If I am drinking something that is a little better, then I will tip $2-5.

So say you drink 6 beers in a night. You spent $25 in tips. IMO not worth it. I would rather tip $6 and save $19. So let's say $19 / night and I usually go out twice a week, so 104 x $19 = $1,976 / year. Yep ... not worth it!

That's too much. It just is. Unless you know the server. But yeah, I don't see the point here.

I understand how they'll come back real fast after the first 20 dollar tip but then they expect it? Then if you tip only 1 dollar after that, do they still come as quickly?

And do you notice if anything is floating in it?

Yes they do come back and no they dont expect it for every drink.
Have you ever been out at a bar when it's really busy and wondered why the bartender or waitress paid more attention to someone else? Its because they were tipping better. I would rather spend a little more and get great service. Keep in mind if the service sucks, I dont tip.

I usually tip pretty well. Between one to five dollars per drink, depending on the server. But I guess $20 right off the bat to get their attention works too.

I agree 150% with the first part. The part I don't get is this: If the service s*cks isn't it too late ? Aren't you out the $20 ?
It definitely gets the job done and is THE way to go at a busy bar or club. The advantage of doing this at a bar is that you're the one going back and forth for your drinks. The bartender will acknowledge you almost immediately and take care of you. While at the poker table you're on the waiter/waitress' clock. If he or she doesn't come along but once in a while you're out the $20 and there's nothing you can really do about the slow/sporadic sevice.
I tend to give $1 for every beverage and if the service is pretty good i'll bump it up from there on out...

We met a cool couple on the ship that also started tipping well b/c we were. The couple just went on another cruise a few months ago and they saw the waitress and the waitress recognized them first. The waitress asked how we were and the couple told the waitress my wife and I had a baby and the waitress bought our baby a big stuffed horse (like a teddy bear) from Barbados where they are famous for the horses. about 2ft long and 1ft tall.
So in short, a little gratitude can go along way.

I never tip the waitstaff ... after all ... it is tough walking in those high heels (this for the women, one hopes ...
Always let the waitstaff by your chair and give them plenty of room ... don't tip them! They could get hurt!
I do - however - offer a gratuity .... of about $1 a drink
