I loved Matt Damon in that clip. And I think anyone who bashes him for being a Hollywood liberal as "being pro-active" while in the spotlight is completely dishonest.
He's in the limelight as a famous actor. He was asked about his opinion from the interviewer. He gave his very honest opinion.
That doesn't qualify him as a "cretin".
I am also concerned (like Matt Damon) about leaders who are serious about Creationism. It's the biggest load of crap that is attempting to be forced down our throats as "legitimate scientific ideas". It's bad enough that this society has to deal with religious fundamentalists, but a person vying for a position of real authority that spouts this outrageous crap is a real concern.
He was honest in being frightened about Sarah Palin becoming president just like many of us are. His joke about the bad Disney movie was funny. He had the ability to recognize that Palin was picked for political purposes and not by her qualifications for a presidential administration.
You can disagree with the things he says, but you have absolutely no ground to stand on by calling him a cretin because of his answer.
Why is he a cretin and not irishguy or other liberal posters on FCP? Because I'm sure their opinions on Palin would match up.
People come to Washington believing it is the center of power. It was only much later that I learned that Washington is a steering wheel that's not connected to an engine.
I look at the Senators and pray for this country.

Gives hundred of thousands to millions of dollars to charity and countless hours of his time. What a cretin.
From all accounts is generally a nice person to work with or be around in general. What a cretin.

his claim of looking at actuarial tables and claiming they show >33% chance of death in the next 4 years qualifies him as a cretin. Hes either a liar or doesnt have a clue about what he read.

If being wrong on the percent qualifies him as a cretin. What does talking down to everyone and belittling those who see the world differently with countless immature names and snide remarks qualify you as?

I dont belittle anyone for seeing the world differently, I belittle them for being so gd stupid they cant defend their positions coherently. and as one of the prime objects of my snide remarks, you know where that puts you.

except for James Woods. He's awesome. I wish he'd be as active as he was in the last election.

I explain my opinions rather coherently you just choose to close your eyes and ignore it and show no respect to anyone other then those that follow your views. I can't remember a thread that didn't turn into you being a prick to people(perhaps I just beat you too it this time). I don't know where you went to school but its clear that you're inteligent its just a shame they you never learned tact or class.

So people know far to little about her to judge her negatively but conservatives know enough about her to sing her praise? Huh?

Start with George Washington and name for me all the presidents to didn't believe in Creationism. After you're done and you find a few, then I'll give you the names of some that did believe in Creationism and we will compare how good they were as president. GO!

lol you've almost opened yourself up to this one
"Sooooo someone who speaks/acts off of bad information is a cretin? /wink wink wink"
Realistically, though, if the difference between the 33% and the actual 12% does NOT make him a cretin. He is voicing a very REAL concern that a McCain president makes people worried about his longevity. And with Palin as the VP, we feel that we're pretty much ****ed.
I am NOT saying that Obama is going to be messiah in office. So don't turn around and accuse me of being an Obama supporter.
But this attack on Matt Damon's character by calling him a cretin is a COMPLETE load of crap. All of us have said MANY worse things on these forums alone.
People come to Washington believing it is the center of power. It was only much later that I learned that Washington is a steering wheel that's not connected to an engine.

LOL
this is A HUGE joke!!!!!
First off, the information coming out of the modern day creationist movement is NOT dated back to George Washington so you couldn't even claim they're on your side if you wanted to.
The technology, back then, did not exist to give us the understanding of reality that we have today. There is absolutely no excuse for outrageous creationist bullshit that is completely unfounded. And I do sincerely doubt the PRESIDENTIAL judgment of a person who STILL (with ALL of the resources that we have today) spouts this crap.
And I'm sure George Washington wasn't spouting his proud beliefs that Jesus was buddies with a gd brontosaurus.
So why don't you try bringing some honesty into this discussion instead of trying to create unintelligible traps with completely dishonest intentions?
If I lived in the 1700's, I might believe some crazy shit, too.
Today, you have absolutely no excuse. You can get away with all kinds of spiritual stuff that can't be held to scientific observation, but you can NOT get away with lying about the age of the earth when we can show you incontrovertible evidence otherwise.

you have this habit of watching/reading someone write/talk about 15 ideas and then picking the one you dont like and only commenting on that.
besides the actuary comment, what did you think of the rest? I got the feeling that Mr. Damon feels the same way a lot of people do about Sara Palin and that his reasons are legitimate. Just because he should stay away from pretending to be an insurance wizard does not mean the rest of what he said is invalid.

Second, some people do care, so they asked him, and he answered. What's the big deal?
Third, answers like that show why the Palin pick was genius. People start looking at her experience, and then say instead I'll vote for Obama, whose experience includes.... well, it's pretty similar to Palin, except Obama has no executive level experience while she does. And he's at the top of the ticket, she's only the VP. And people who care what celebrities think are probably more susceptible to these kinds of arguments.
