Honestly I don't get it. Seems like a desperate move when the campaign didn't need to be in desperation. One creaky old heartbeat away from the presidency for this woman? Wow. Listening to her speechshe just seems so... amateur. Wow.

Can't see the McCain/Palin press conference - is it really that bad?Aren't most of these scripted so you just read off a teleprompter?

There are lots of reasons this is a terrible choice. Only 1 is shown above.
1) Is it not kind of a big selling feature for a vp to be readily able to step in for the president if something were to happen?2) Again same as above4) I disagree5) I agree but wonder who was.

I have to believe that there are thousands of men just like my husband who'd vote for anybody but a woman (though he'd never admit that was the reason).

Her tone sounds more like she is speaking at a high school assembly than a vice presidential nomination.

Absolutely. I keep emailing my Republican friends and telling them that it sounds like a city council meeting. I kind of feel bad for Republicans.

I like Hilary's voice better. Palin sounds like a college cheerleader.

No. Its a big talking point that is next to meaningless in the voting booth.

Hope so. I like her, but my kneejerk reaction is the same as everyone else's. She's out of her element, comes off like a hockey mom (which she is) rather than a top political mind, and does the impossible by making McCain look older and feebler than he already did. I guess we'll see what we'll see.

Not so much when the candidate is 73 years old.

Life expectancy for a US male is 75 years. At 72, McCain would be the oldest man ever to become president; it's certainly a valid concern.EDIT: just looked up the numbers on the CDC life table. The chances of a white male dying by age 76 is 40%. Chances of dying between the ages of 72 and 76 is about 12%.
