LOLYou're high.2 races By the time the 4x100 relay is over it should be 3 Golds for Bolt. It's a very interesting comparison since Track is so much more popular Worldwide than swimming and the sprints are the most watched and important events in Track. Plus swimmers have so many more opportunities to win medals.Phelps is amazing but Bolt is superhuman. Setting the World Record in the 200M that a lot of people thought would not be broken for a very long time while running into a strong headwind is pretty amazing. You can't really compare World Records being broken since everybody in swimming with the combination of the new suits and the design of that pool was swimming faster than they ever have before.

Both the track and the pool were both created to break records though. So I kind of give that a wash.If Phelps didn't break 7 WR's and an OR along the way, then I think Bolt has a strong case, but he did.Swimmers have more chance because of the different strokes, but I mean, there's also a lot of running events, but most people just don't compete in more than a couple. Just the fact that Phelps can swim all 4 strokes and dominate is pretty amazing. If Bolt went out and won something like the 100/200/400 and Mile, (Or some other combination obv) then this conversation gets a bit different, but he's just the fastest sprinter, not necessarily the best runner. But with Phelps there isn't as much doubt.

Do I detect some Red, White and Blue blinkers :club: How many World Records are being set on the Track ? To my knowledge a grand total of 2 so far. Yes the track as tracks go is fast but not to the same extent as the pool is. Also, Beijing is at basically Sea Level which is not good for setting sprinting records. The most amazing thing about Bolt's run today was that he broke a record that nobody had come close to since it was set and he did it running into a headwind at Sea Level. Simply amazing. Also, swimming is a sport with very few competitors World Wide in comparison to the purest form of competition there is which is running and seeing who gets there first. ( Well pure with the exception of whoever has the best chemists on their team and is getting away with it )Outside of the US and maybe Australia the rest of the World cares a lot more about Track and Field than they do swimming and the only reason the US cares more is that the US is cleaning up in the pool while after all the drug stuff the US aren't doing that well on the Track and a lot of Americans are fed up with the doping that has gone on.The argument on who is the star of the Olympics is a very close one and to dismiss it and say either Bolt of Phelps has no competition for that is pretty silly.

lmao nutzStar kayaker Adam van Koeverden of Oakville, Ont., races in finals on Friday and Saturday and has looked dangerous in the heats, even breaking the world record in the 500 metres.Canada kills in the waters in rowing we own it , Men's 8 Gold 4 Olympics in a row, this year already 4 medals plus more to come

Why didn't Bolt immigrate to Canada from Jamaica as a kid like Ben Johnson and Donovan Bailey did. Crap we missed out on that one.Rose is being just a bit over the top with her Canadian results although we're doing about what is expected for us in a Summer Olympics. Also, Rose some of your facts are a bit off as the Men's 8's in rowing was a huge disappointment in Athens for Canada.

If Bolt was a Long Jumper like Carl Lewis and won gold in that then I think he "might" get the nod. Since you can't compare the 2 different sports, you do have to be able to compare them to the past history of the sport. There is no doubt that Phelps is the best Olympic swimmer of all time, passing who many considered the best overall OLYMPIAN of all time. Bolt can't even claim the best track Olympics of all time since Lewis won 4 golds in 84, which included the long jump. For the most part, although as great as he is at it, Bolt is a one trick pony. Phelps won individual golds in 2 different types of swims as well as both individual medleys. Bolt is a great story, but Phelps is THE story.
